The Game: Stonehill College aims to break through with its first win of the season as it hosts LIU Post for a Northeast-10 Conference matchup on Timothy J. Coughlin (COG-lin) ‘80 Memorial Field at W.B. Mason Stadium tonight.
Rookie of the Week: Stonehill freshman wide receiver Andrew Jamiel (West Yarmouth, Mass.) has been named the Northeast-10 Rookie of the Week the league office announced on Monday. Jamiel had a record-breaking performance in Stonehill’s tough 31-27 setback at Southern Connecticut State University on Friday night. He caught a program-record 16 passes for a season-high 149 yards and a touchdown as he finished with a season-best 210 all-purpose yards by adding another 61 yards on three kickoff returns. Jamiel’s first career touchdown reception came with 2:04 remaining in the fourth quarter on a 12 yard catch and run and then after hauling in the two-point conversion pass, gave the Skyhawks a 27-24 lead. Skyhawks Going National Again: Tickets for Stonehill’s October 15 home game against the University of New Haven, which will be broadcast live on ESPN, WatchESPN, are on sale tonight until halftime as well as the Skyhawks October 1 game here at W.B. Mason Stadium against Merrimack. For the second time in four years Stonehill’s home matchup with New Haven is receiving a national broadcast, after its 2012 contest that was named the Northeast-10 Game of the Year by D2Football.com was televised on CBS Sports Network. This year’s game on ESPN3, WatchESPN is scheduled for Saturday, October 15, from W.B. Mason Stadium at 6 p.m. The Stonehill/New Haven game is part of the NCAA Division II Football Showcase, in which 22 regular season games will be carried by ESPN3, WatchESPN and American Sports Network. Ryan Saving Defense: Senior linebacker Ryan Doherty (Methuen, Mass.) posted his sixth career double-figure tackle performance when he finished with 11 stops (eight solo), including a tackle for a loss of a yard, against Southern Connecticut State on Friday night. Doherty, who led Stonehill with 76 tackles in 2015, has posted double-figure tackles in both games this season and leads the team with 21 stops - good for third in the NE-10. Iron Man: Senior defensive end Andrew Kibarian (Lynnfield, Mass.) has started 33 straight games heading into tonight’s game. He has started 33 of his 35 games played over his career. 
Getting Good Reception: Freshman Andrew Jamiel (West Yarmouth, Mass.) recorded a program-record 16 receptions at Southern Connecticut Friday night. He broke the previous single-game mark of 14 receptions by John Gomes ‘13 against American International in 2012. Jemiel leads the NE-10 and ranks second nationally in Division II with his 10.0 receptions per game through his first two collegiate contests.Shootout Fourth: After combining for 19 points through three quarters, Stonehill and Southern Connecticut State erupted for a combined 39 points in a back and forth fourth quarter on Friday night. The Skyhawks outscored the Owls 20-19 in the frame after trailing 12-7 through the first three, but had three go-ahead scores nixed by big plays from SCSU, including a 98-yard kickoff return and 75-yard touchdown reception in the final quarter. At A Loss: Senior linebacker Anthony Leggio (Commack, N.Y.) leads the NE-10 (27th nationally in Division II) with four tackles for loss (16 yards), including a career-best three against Bloomsburg in week one. He finished with seven tackles (all solo) in the season-opener. Leggio, who enters tonight’s game four stops shy of 100 for his career, has totaled nine career tackles for loss. Getting Offensive: Stonehill ranks second in the NE-10 for total offense with 385 yards per game through the first two contests of the season. The Skyhawks are averaging 249 yards per game through the air (5th) and 136 yards per game on the ground (4th). With Purpose: Freshman wide receiver Andrew Jamiel (West Yarmouth, Mass.) posted Stonehill’s first 200-yard all-purpose game since Nate Robitaille ‘15 had 242 all-purpose yards, also against Southern Connecticut, on October 25, 2014. Jamiel finished with 210 all-purpose as he added 61 yards on three kickoff returns to go with his season-best 149 receiving yards on a program-record 16 receptions. He ranks fifth in the NE-10 with 147.0 all-purpose yards per game. Go For It!: Stonehill shares the Northeast-10 lead for fourth down conversion at 67-percent (4-for-6) after converting 1-of-2 tries in week two at Southern Connecticut State. The Skyhawks were 3-of-4 on fourth down against Bloomsburg in week one. 
Running With Purpose: Sophomore running back Mike Cordova (Monroe, N.Y.) leads the NE-10 and ranks 23rd nationally in Division II with 174.5 all-purpose yards per game through two contests. After posting 176 all-purpuse yards against Bloomsburg in week one, he added 173 yards at Southern Connecticut on Friday night. He also ranks second in the NE-10 with 88.5 rushing yards per game.Dyer Wolf: Senior left tackle Christian Dyer (Seabrook, N.H.) has started 24 consecutive games on the Stonehill offensive line. He has 26 career starts on the line to lead a veteran unit which features four lineman with 20-plus career starts, including senior captain Anthony Siciliano (Monroe, N.Y.) with 32 career starts (two consecutive) and classmate Joe MacInnis (Raynham, Mass.) with 21 starts (nine straight). A Team Possessed: Stonehill has won the possession battle each of the first two games this season, ranking third in the NE-10 (30th nationally) with 33:08 per game after two weeks. The Skyhawks, who have held the ball for over 32 minutes each of the first two weeks, ranked eighth nationally for TOP (2nd NE-10) in 2015 at 33:35. Stonehill won the possession battle in all seven wins last season, and ten of 11 games overall, holding onto the ball for over 36 minutes in four games. Leaders of the Pack: The 2016-17 academic year marks the eighth-straight year, Stonehill College is partnering with Pack Network to provide live “Packcasts” of Skyhawks athletics. However, it marks the first time the webcasts are available free of charge. Stonehill will webcast all home games for football, field hockey, volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball and women’s lacrosse this season, as well as one men’s and one women’s soccer match this fall. Games can also be viewed on your iPad or iPhone. Getting Social: Fans and media members of Stonehill athletics now have three social media outlets to get updates on all 20 varsity programs.
