Foltz earns NE-10 Offensive Player of the Week honors for first time

EASTON, Mass. (September 14, 2015) – Stonehill College sophomore quarterback Matt Foltz (Mount Joy, Pennsylvania/The Hill School) and freshman tight end Kaleb Lutton (Middletown, Connecticut/Xavier), who helped architect Friday night's 24-20 comeback win at Merrimack College, were recognized for their efforts by earning Northeast-10 Conference weekly honors from the league office today.
Foltz, who earns NE-10 Offensive Player of the Week honors for the first time in his career, engineered his first career fourth quarter comeback win as Stonehill erased a ten point deficit to improve to 2-0 for the first time since 2010. He completed 10-of-15 passes for 95 yards and two touchdowns in the fourth quarter, including 6-of-7 passes for 55 yards on the game winning drive that led to a 20-yard touchdown pass with 3:08 to play. Foltz finished with 256 total yards as he completed 22-of-36 passes (61.1%) for 231 yards and three touchdowns, with no interceptions, while adding 11 carries for another 25 yards. He connected with senior Gordon McLeod (Weymouth, Massachusetts/BC High) for a 50-yard touchdown pass that gave the Skyhawks their first lead in the second quarter.
Foltz leads the NE-10 with his five touchdown passes this season, having gone 55 pass attempts through two games without an interception and 62 attempts overall dating back to last season. His 155.64 pass efficiency rating ranks second in the NE-10 and 36th nationally in Division II and he has completed 35-of-55 passes (63.6%) for 406 yards, averaging 203.0 yards per game. Foltz ranks second among NE-10 leaders for completion percentage (40th nationally) and fourth in passing yards per game, while ranking 22nd nationally for touchdown passes. He is averaging 218.5 yards of total offense per game.

Foltz has started the last five games at quarterback for Stonehill, including the final three games of the 2014 season, and has completed 81-of-127 passes (63.8%) for 1,015 yards and seven touchdowns, averaging 203 yards per game. He has also added 55 carries for another 152 yards on the ground for six touchdowns. Foltz led the Skyhawks with six rushing touchdowns in 2014 despite playing just three games. He collected NE-10 Rookie of the Week honors twice, was named to the NE-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll both semesters and Athletic Director's Honor Roll for the fall semester his freshman year.
Lutton was on the receiving end of Foltz's two touchdown passes in the fourth quarter on Friday night, collecting the first three receptions of his career (all in the fourth quarter) for 35 yards and the two touchdowns. His nine-yard touchdown catch three minutes into the fourth quarter drew Stonehill within three points (20-17) and then his 20-yard touchdown reception put the Skyhawks in front for good with 3:08 remaining. Lutton also caught a six yard pass on the second play of the game winning drive.
Lutton now ranks second among Northeast-10 leaders for touchdown receptions as a result of Friday night's performance, sharing the team lead with McLeod. He is averaging 11.5 yards per catch and ranks second on the team in scoring with 12 points (8th NE-10).
Stonehill (2-0, 1-0 NE-10), among teams receiving votes for the second straight week in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division II poll, is back in action on Saturday night for its first home game of the season when it hosts Pace University as part of Skyhawks Kickoff Weekend and NE-10 Presidents' Cup Celebration at Timothy J. Coughlin '80 Memorial Field at W.B. Mason Stadium at 6 p.m.
