Rockland, Massachusetts, senior linebacker earns Daktronics All-Region honors for second straight year

EASTON, Mass. (December 15, 2014) – Stonehill College senior linebacker Brian Harrington (Rockland, Massachusetts/Rockland) has been named to the 2014 Daktronics, Inc., All-Super Region 1 second team by the region's sports information directors.
Harrington, a first team selection as a junior, earns Daktronics All-Super Region 1 honors for the second straight year with his second team pick. He joins former teammate and All-American Jareed Gaines, '13, as the only two-time Daktronics All-Region selections in program history and gives Stonehill five Daktronics selections all-time in the 13-year history of the program. Harrington, who became the first Daktronics All-Region first team pick in program history last fall, is one of nine Northeast-10 Conference student-athletes named to the two Daktronics All-Super Region 1 teams this season.
Harrington, a two-time All-Northeast-10 first team selection, is the leader of Stonehill's defense which ranks sixth nationally in Division II for total defense (284.0 yds per game), while also leading the NE-10 in rushing defense (94.7 yds/gm) and passing defense (189.3 yds/gm) and ranking second for scoring defense (19.6 ppg). He is just the second player in program history to surpass 100 tackles in two seasons, finishing his senior year with a team-high 105 tackles (3rd NE-10), with 35 solo, including 7.0 for a loss of 30 yards, 3.0 sacks for a loss of 20 yards, two interceptions, three quarterback hurries and a pass breakup in 11 games. Harrington's tackles are the fifth-highest single-season total after his program and NE-10 record 151 stops in 2013.
Harrington posted ten or more tackles five times this season, including a career-high 19 against Southern Connecticut State University on October 25. He finished his career with 15 games with 10-plus tackles, including seven with 16 or more. Harrington also registered 11 stops with a career-best 2.0 sacks in a win over Merrimack College on September 27.
Harrington, who was voted to the Capital One Academic All-District team earlier this season and was a Campbell Trophy and National Football Foundation National Scholar-Athlete semifinalist, finished his career ranked fifth in program history with 281 tackles (122 solo) in 42 career games played. A Don Hansen second team All-American in 2013, Harrington also posted 14.0 tackles for loss, with 5.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, two interceptions and two pass breakups over his career. He was a finalist for the Inaugural Cliff Harris Award in 2013 when he was also named the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston's Joseph P. Zabilski Defensive Player of the Year Award winner and was also selected to the Daktronics All-Super Region 1 first team, Don Hansen All-Super Region 1 first team, New England Football Writers Division II/III All-New England team and earned D2Football.com NE-10 Defensive Player of the Year honors.
Stonehill finished its 2014 season with a 5-6 record overall, including a 4-5 mark in Northeast-10 play. The Skyhawks capped their season with a 19-11 victory over Saint Anselm College on NE-10 Championship Weekend in the No. 5 vs. 6 game. The Skyhawks boast the No. 6-ranked defense in Division II, leading the NE-10 for total defense, passing defense and rushing defense, while ranking second for scoring defense.
