Mount Joy, Pennsylvania, freshman quarterback honored after three touchdown performance against Assumption

Northeast-10 Football Weekly Release

EASTON, Mass. (November 12, 2014) – Stonehill College freshman quarterback Matt Foltz (Mount Joy, Pennsylvania/Donegal) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week in football for the second-straight week by the league office.

Foltz posted 366 total yards and scored all three Stonehill touchdowns in Saturday's 28-21 setback to Assumption College on Saturday. He completed 20-of-34 passes for a season-high 310 yards to go with 13 carries for a team-best 56 yards and three touchdowns – one shy of the program's single-game record. Foltz scored on a nine yard keeper to put the Skyhawks up 7-0 on their first possession of the game, added a one yard plunge for a 13-7 lead in the third quarter and then capped a nine-play, 68-yard drive with a six yard scoring run midway through the fourth quarter to knot the score at 21-21 after connecting with senior Nate Robitaille (Attleboro, Massachusetts/Attleboro) for a two point conversion.

Foltz's 310 passing yards on Saturday is the eighth-highest single-game total in W.B. Mason Stadium history, and the most by a freshman in program history, while his three rushing touchdowns are tied for third-highest in the facility's history. He has started the last two games for Stonehill and is averaging 282.5 yards of total offense per game, with 242.5 per game passing and 40 yards per game on the ground. He has completed 66-percent (33-for-50) of his passes for two touchdowns to go with another four on the ground through two games, already ranking fourth on the team in scoring with 24 points, and posting a 148.68 passer rating.

Foltz, who prepped at The Hill School in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, is the second Stonehill student-athlete to earn Rookie of the Week honors from the NE-10 after junior linebacker Peter Catal (Cornwall, New York/Cornwall) was cited following week six. Foltz is the fourth Skyhawks quarterback to start under center this season and the fourth to earn a win in his first collegiate start over the last two seasons, following his week nine performance at Saint Anselm College in the "Battle for the Ol' Bronze Hawk."

Stonehill (4-6, 4-5 NE-10) closes out its 2014 season on Saturday when it returns to Manchester, New Hampshire, for Northeast-10 Championship Weekend to battle Saint Anselm in the fifth place game at noon.
