Ventura, Calif., senior is sixth Stonehill football player to receive weekly award

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (September 25, 2013) – Stonehill College senior quarterback Logan Meyer (Ventura, Calif./Saint Bonaventure) has received the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston's Gold Helmet Award for Divisions II and III, sponsored by Ray Galliant Insurance, at the New England Football Writers weekly luncheon at Dillon Fieldhouse on the campus of Harvard University today.

Meyer earns the weekly award for the first time in his career and is the sixth weekly Gold Helmet Award winner from Stonehill in program history, but the first since Cruz Parsons, '09, received the honor on October 5, 2005. Also earning Gold Helmets from Stonehill were former Skyhawk standouts Tony Dello Iacono (1994), Mike McLucas (1994), Dan Field (1995) and Tyrone Jefferson (2000).

Meyer engineered a Stonehill offense that racked up 503 yards of total offense in Friday night's 41-38 overtime victory at Assumption College in which the Skyhawks rallied from three 14-point deficits. He played a role in all six Stonehill touchdowns in the win, passing for five and rushing for another for the second-straight week. Meyer completed 27-of-49 passes for 372 yards and the five touchdowns with just one interception.

Meyer's 14-yard touchdown pass to sophomore Gordon McLeod (Weymouth, Mass./BC High) on Stonehill's first possession of overtime gave the Skyhawks its first lead of the night when it mattered most, offsetting a 44-yard Assumption field goal on its possession. Meyer also had touchdown passes of 32, 4, 36 and 47 yards, the latter of which came on fourth and six, with 4:06 left in the fourth quarter to knot the score at 35-35 and also broke Dello Iacono's program record for career touchdown passes as he finished the night with 48.

Meyer, who holds the top five passing yardage games in program history, is also Stonehill's all-time leader for career passing yards (5,510), completions (435) and attempts (813). His yardage total on Friday night is second on the program's single-game list behind his own school-record total of 385 yards against Pace University in 2012, while his completion total is the third-highest in program history and his five touchdowns one shy of the single-game record of which Meyer holds a share.

Meyer earned Northeast-10 Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors for the first time in his career following Stonehill's 52-24 win over Saint Anselm College in week two. He ranks second among NE-10 leaders for passing yards (849), yards per game (283.0) and touchdown passes (12) through the first three weeks of the season. He has completed 57-of-116 passes through three games and posted a 139.58 efficiency rating. Meyer ranks fourth nationally in Division II for points responsible for with his 12 touchdown passes (3^rd nationally) and two rushing scores racking up  84 points through three games and he also ranks 29^th for passing yards, 24^th for yards per completion (14.9), 31^st for passing yards per game and 43^rd for pass efficiency.

Meyer holds the program's single-game record with 34 completions against Southern Connecticut State University last season and also set the program single-season records for passing yards (2,215) and completions (166) in 2012, while his 20 touchdown passes and 307 pass attempts last season are both the second-highest totals in program history.

Stonehill (2-1, 2-0 NE-10), among teams receiving votes in this week's American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division II poll for the first time in program history, returns home for the next two weeks, starting with a clash with rival Bentley University on Saturday night at W.B. Mason Stadium as part of Family Weekend at the College at 6 p.m.
