The Game: Stonehill College opens its home and Northeast-10 Conference schedule tonight with the annual Battle for the Ol' Bronze Hawk against Saint Anselm College at Timothy J. Coughlin Memorial Field at W.B. Mason Stadium. Both teams are looking to bounce back from opening weekend non-conference losses. The Skyhawks were dealt a 41-13 setback at #16/18 Bloomsburg (Pa.) University last Saturday, while the Hawks were defeated at home by Bowie State University, 42-28 in Manchester, N.H.

Charlie Bergeron, the voice of the Skyhawks, begins his 16th season of broadcasting the action powered by Pack Network. WSHL 91.3 FM will also be broadcasting the game with Tim Culverhouse and Lee Greely alling the action for the radio broadcast.
Inauguration Week Kickoff: Tonight's game is part of the official Inauguration Week kickoff for Rev. John Denning, CSC, who took over as Stonehill's tenth President on July 1. Formerly the Vice President for Student Affairs at the College, Fr. Denning succeeded Rev. Mark T. Cregan '78, C.S.C. who stepped down in June 2013 after 13 successful years of leading the College. Fr. John's inauguration ceremony is scheduled for Friday, September 20, at 2 p.m. Fr. John will assist in the opening coin toss for tonight's game. For a full inauguration week schedule go to:

Battle for the Ol' Bronze Hawk: Stonehill is 7-0 all-time in the "Battle for the Ol' Bronze Hawk" after 35-20 triumph at Saint Anselm last season. This year's game surpasses last year as the earliest ever meeting for the coveted hardware as well as the second "Battle" contested under the lights and the first night "Battle" in W.B. Mason Stadium history. The "Ol' Bronze Hawk" is given to the winner of the annual football matchup between the Skyhawks and Hawks and was unveiled in 2006. Stonehill has held possession of the valued hardware each of the seven years so far, outscoring Saint Anselm 257-98 in that time. A little repair work had to be done to the Bronze Hawk in 2009 as it had a wing clipped while being loaded into the team's equipment van after Stonehill's 35-0 win in Manchester, in 2008. Stonehill has won eight-straight meetings overall between the two and is now 9-5 all-time against the Hawks.
Against the Hawks: Tonight marks the 15th meeting all-time between these two programs. Stonehill holds a 9-5 advantage in the all-time series, having won each of the last eight encounters and nine of ten after a 35-20 victory in Manchester, N.H., last season. The Skyhawks are 4-2 all-time against Saint Anselm here in Easton, including a 4-0 clip here at W.B. Mason Stadium since opening in 2005. Head Coach Robert Talley is 6-0 in his career against the Hawks.
Stonehill Drops Opener at Bloomsburg: #16/18 Bloomsburg racked up 642 yards of total offense, including 457 on the ground, to claim a 41-13 season-opening triumph over Stonehill in non-conference football action at Danny Hale Field at Redman Stadium last weekend. Senior All-American running back Franklyn Quiteh spearheaded Bloomsburg's pounding running attack with 21 carries for 182 yards and three touchdowns as he averaged 8.7 yards per carry and scored on runs of 27, six and eight yards. Dai'Shon Munger added 135 yards on 21 carries, while freshman Joe Parsnik chipped in with 81 yards on 12 touches. Senior Jamal Johnson (Brockton, Mass.) rushed the ball 15 times for 73 yards, averaging 4.9 yards per carry, for Stonehill. Classmate Logan Meyer (Ventura, Calif.) had two touchdown passes and finished with 145 yards as he completed 12-of-34 passes with two interceptions. Sophomore Gordon McLeod (Weymouth, Mass.) had three receptions for 56 yards and a touchdown, while freshman Billy Pierce (Caldwell, N.J.) added a scoring catch. Stonehill finished with 198 total yards of offense, with 53 coming on the ground and 145 through the air. Junior Brian Harrington (Rockland, Mass.) led the Stonehill defense with a career-high 16 tackles (eight solo), while sophomore Anthony Masucci (East Haven, Conn.) also posted a career-best with 14 stops (eight solo) and a forced fumble, while senior Tim Bennett (Fillmore, Calif.) chipped in with nine tackles (four solo), including 1.0 for a loss of a yard.
Scouting the Hawks: Saint Anselm also enters this weekend's game looking to bounce back from an opening weekend loss after a 42-28 setback to Bowie State last Saturday. Sophomore Andrew Murphy (Franklin, Mass.) tossed three touchdowns, including a pair to junior Justin Bernard (Cambridge, Mass.), and the defense forced four turnovers. Murphy finished 19-for-39 for 165 yards and the two touchdowns, while Bernard caught seven passes for 29 yards. Senior Keith Charles (Laurel, Md.) rushed the ball ten times for 50 yards and a touchdown. Mike Tatro (North Adams, Mass.) tallied 10 tackles, a fumble recovery, an interception and a pass breakup, as well as 74 yards worth of defensive returns. Junior Isaac Jorgensen (Eldersburg, Md.) made a game-high 12 tackles, including 1.5 for a loss and an interception, while sophomore DB Carroll Bailey (Clinton, Mass.) matched Jorgensen's 12 tackles and added both a breakup and a QB hurry.
Defensive Player of the Week: Junior linebacker Brian Harrington (Rockland, Mass.) was named the Northeast-10 Conference's Defensive Player of the Week and earned a spot on the NoontimeSports.com New England Football Honor Roll on Monday. Harrington made the most of his first career start in Stonehill's season-opener at Bloomsbu rg, ranked 16th in the D2football.com Division II preseason poll and 18th in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) preseason poll, on Saturday. He posted a career-high 16 tackles against the Huskies, including a career-best eight solo.
Passing Fancy: Senior quarterback Logan Meyer (Ventura, Calif.) enters tonight's game just 89 yards shy of Stonehill Hall of Fame quarterback Tony Dello Iacono's career record of 4,895 passing yards having passed for 4,806 yards on a school-record 390 passes on a record 731 attempts. Meyer's two touchdown passes last weekend give him 38 for his career, moving into a tie for third all-time with Mark Drake, '91, and eight shy of Dello Iacono's career mark of 46.
For Henry: The Stonehill football team keeps the memory of former teammate and friend, Henry Thevenin, '14, close to them once again this season after dedicating the 2011 season to him. Thevenin passed away on June 14, 2011, due to complications from a two-month battle with leukemia. The Skyhawks continue to maintain his locker in a place of prominence in the team lockerroom. In week one of last season against Curry, the team honored Thevenin by playing its first defensive play with ten players. Thevenin appeared in seven games for the football team, starting the last six, as a freshman in 2010. He totaled 18 tackles, eight solo, with a pass breakup for the Skyhawks. Thevenin was a 2009 graduate of nearby Brockton High School and prepped one year at Suffield Academy in Connecticut.
Aye, Aye, Captains: Head Coach Robert Talley named seniors Tim Bennett (DB), Logan Meyer (QB) and Justin Willis (RB) as team captains for the 2013 season after a vote of the returning players last spring.
Academic Success: Stonehill College has been recognized for its academic performance with regard to graduation rate by earning a 97-percent Academic Success Rating (ASR) as released by the NCAA last fall. The ASR considers the academic success rate of the institution based on the graduation rate of student-athletes while also giving credit for any student-athletes that transferred from the institution while in good academic standing. In addition to Stonehill's overall ASR of 97%, nine of Stonehill's 16 athletic programs (cross country and indoor and outdoor track & field are combined by the NCAA) received perfect scores of 100%. Stonehill's 97% ASR ranks second among NE-10 institutions behind just Saint Michael's College (98%) and ranks fifth overall in NCAA Division II. The football team maintained an ASR of 95% - signifigantly higher than the federal rate of 80%.
Skyhawk Shop Online: Stonehill launched its new online store at www.stonehillskyhawkshop.com through a new partnership with Advanced-Online of Coppell, Texas. The new Stonehill Skyhawk Shop features a wide-range of clothing and other merchandise featuring the Stonehill athletics branding marks. Parents, alumni, students and fans can order through a secure online ordering system with their credit card and have the items shipped directly to their door within five business days. Gift certificates can also be purchased online for any special occasion.
Leaders of the Pack: For the fourth-straight year, Stonehill College is partnering with Pack Network to provide live "Packcasts" of all home football and men's and women's basketball games along with other select athletic events. Fans can access the webcasts via www.stonehillskyhawks.tv. Viewers can opt to purchase single-game passes for $6.99 or purchase an "All-Access" pass for $59.99, however Skyhawks Fans who sign up for an All-Access pass before October 1 will receive a $10 discount. All-Access pass members can view all Stonehill webcasts for the entire year, while also gaining access to the archives and be able to watch the webcasts at any time.

On Deck: Stonehill is back on the road next weekend when it visits Assumption College for a Northeast-10 Conference matchup on Friday, September 20, at 7 p.m. The Skyhawks return home for the following two weekends, starting with a Family Weekend clash with rival Bentley University on Saturday, September 28, at 6 p.m., as part of Hall of Fame Weekend.
