The Game: Stonehill College hits the road for the fourth time in five weekends in the month of October as it visits Southern Connecticut State University for a Northeast-10 Conference clash at Jess Dow Field this afternoon. The Skyhawks are looking to bounce back from a 43-30 setback at Merrimack College last weekend, while the Owls will be trying to build off the momentum of a dramatic fourth quarter comeback that produced a last second 48-47 triumph at American International College last Saturday.

The Series: This afternoon marks the 15th meeting all-time between these programs. Southern Connecticut State has won each of the previous 14 encounters between the two schools, including a 45-21 triumph in Easton, Mass., last season. The Owls are 6-0 all-time here at Jess Dow Field against Stonehill. Southern posted a 42-14 win in the last time these two teams met here in New Haven. Head Coach Robert Talley is 0-4 in his career against Southern Connecticut State.

They're Honored: Senior safety Matt Iannucci (Oakland, N.J.) and sophomore quarterback Jesse Hunt (Winchendon, Mass.) were both named to the Northeast-10 Conference's weekly honor roll on Monday. Iannucci posted eight tackles (five solo), a forced fumble, fumble recovery and interception for the Skyhawks at Merrimack. Hunt posted a series of season-highs as he completed 25-of-41 passes for 287 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions.
Take Care of the Ball: Sophomore quarterback Jesse Hunt (Winchendon, Mass.), a transfer from UMass has not thrown an interception over the first 84 pass attempts of his collegiate career. He has posted a 142.78 efficiency rating through the first three games of his collegiate career.
A Fight to the Finish: Stonehill scored 23 points in the fourth quarter of Saturday's setback at Merrimack, capped by a 16 point flurry in a 42-second span as the Skyhawks drew within two scores with four minutes to play. It marks the second-straight wek Stonehill has scored 20-plus points in a quarter after the piled up 28 second quarter points on the way to a 42-0 halftime lead against Pace the week before.
Block Party: Stonehill has blocked three kicks this season after junior Jareed Gaines (Lumberton, N.J.) extra point block at Merrimack on Saturday. The Skyhawks blocked two kicks (one extra point, one punt) against American International in week four and have now totaled ten blocked kicks over the last 21 games. Gaines1 has blocked six kicks over his career with three blocked field goals and three extra points.
Reel Him In!: Junior linebacker Raymond Bass (Canton, Mass.) has established career-highs for tackles in back-to-back weeks after posting 12 tackles (five solo), including 1.0 for a loss of six yards, at Merrimack on Saturday. That followed up a team-high eight tackles (four solo), including 2.5 for a loss of 13 yards and 1.0 sacks for a loss of ten against Pace the week prior.

Four Score: Sophomore quarterback Jesse Hunt's (Winchendon, Mass.) four touchdown passes at Merrimack last weekend are tied for third-highest single game total in program history. It marked the first time a Skyhawks quarterback had tossed four or more touchdown passes since Cruz Parsons matched a school record with six in a 41-7 win over Saint Anselm in 2005.
Hogan Hero: Freshman linebacker Michael Hogan (Westborough, Mass.) notched a season-high 15 tackles (one solo) with a fumble recovery at Merrimack last weekend. He is third on the team with 59 stops (18 solo), including 3.0 for a loss of seven yards, 1.0 sacks for a loss of five, two quarterback hurries, a pass breakup, a forced fumble and two recoveries in his first collegiate season.
You Complete Me: Sophomore quarterback Logan Meyer (Ventura, Calif.) set a school record with his 30 completions (42 attempts) for 285 yards and three touchdowns against American International on September 24. He broke the previous record of 25 completions set by Cruz Parsons in 2005 against Saint Anselm and then matched by senior Tim Morrison (Billerica, Mass.) at Merrimack in 2009, while also posting the fourth highest passing yardage total in W.B. Mason Stadium history. Sophomore Jesse Hunt (Winchendon, Mass.) added 25 completions (on 41 attempts) at Merrimack last weekend.
He. Could. Go. All. The. Way!: Senior All-American Stephan Neville (Foxborough, Mass.) broke an NCAA Division II record with his ninth career kickoff return for a touchdown at Pace on September 10. The 88-yard return surpassed the previous record of eight set by Dave Ludy from Winona State (1991-94). Neville, who broke the record at the site of his first career return for a score against the Setters on September 13, 2008, is now just one return for a score shy of the NCAA all-divisions record of ten set by Wesley College's (III) Larry Beavers from 2004-08. Neville leads the NE-10 with 27.6 yards per return (24th nationally) through six weeks.
Movin' On Up!: Junior John Gomes (Hyannis, Mass.) ranks fourth on Stonehill's all-time list with his 1,429 career receiving yards after his eight catches for 99 yards against Merrimack on Saturday. He has 110 career receptions and ten touchdowns and enters today's game 345 yards behind Kevin Adamson, '93 for third all-time.
He's Blogging: Stonehill junior defensive back Mickey Miela (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) is maintaining a weekly blog for the Northeast-10 Conference on its website during the 2011 season. The website offers an insight into life as an NE-10 football student-athlete and will appear on www.northeast10.org and www.stonehillskyhawks.com.
Coach's Corner: www.stonehillskyhawks.com, the official website of Stonehill athletics will have weekly interviews with head coach Rob Talley throughout the season. Coach Talley will recap the previous week's game every Tuesday and then there will be a preview of the coming week's game each Thursday or Friday. Each interview is approximately ten minutes long and will give fans an inside look at each game this season. There will also be regular interviews with Skyhawks student-athletes as well.

On Deck: The Skyhawks are back on the road next weekend with a Northeast-10 Conference clash at Southern Connecticut State University on Saturday at 1 p.m. Stonehill returns home on Saturday, November 5, for its lone remaining home game when it hosts Saint Anselm College for the "Battle for the Ol' Bronze Hawk" on Easton and Military Appreciation Day with kickoff at noon. Stonehill will also honor its senior class prior to kickoff.
