The Game: Stonehill College plays its lone home game in the month of October as it hosts Pace University for a Northeast-10 Conference matchup at Timothy J. Coughlin Memorial Field at W.B. Mason Stadium, as part of Family Weekend at the College, this afternoon. Both teams seek their first NE-10 win of the season as the Skyhawks have dropped five straight since their season opening win here over Curry, including a 42-7 non-conference setback to NCAA I FCS member Bryant in Smithfield, R.I., last weekend. The Setters have lost their last three since a week two non-league win over Stonehill in New York following a 41-10 NE-10 home setback to Assumption last Saturday.

Happy 20th Anniversary!: Stonehill is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its 1991 Eastern College Football Conference (ECFC) championship winning team this afternoon. 1991 team captains Rich Rocco, '92, Glenn Pafford, '92 and Mark Drake, '92 will serve as honorary captains for the opening coin toss. The entire team will then be honored in a halftime ceremony. That year, Stonehill posted a perfect 5-0 record in the ECFC, clinching the Conference championship with a 14-7 victory over rival Bentley. Under the direction of second year head coach David Swanton, Stonehill outscored its ECFC opposition by a 122-37 margin and featured eight All-ECFC selections, including Conference Player of the Year Glen Lindstrom, '93.
Bone Marrow Registry Drive in Memory of Henry Thevenin, '14: Henry Thevenin, '14, lost his brief but courageous battle with leukemia this past June, but a few months before he was diagnosed or even sick, he enrolled in the bone marrow registy once he learned that there was such a need for people to be tested (by cheek swab) and registered. This year, The Learning Community: The Practice of Medicine and You will sponsor a drive in Henry's honor in the hopes that others could be helped and hopefully saved from one of the many diseases that can be cured with a stem cell transplant. The event will take place on Monday October 17 in Alumni Hall on the Stonehill campus from 9:30-2:30 and no appointments are necessary. Professionals from the "Be The Match" Registry of Rhode Island Blood Center will be on hand to inform about the process and educate about the Registry, whether or not you decide to become a member.

He's Honored: Junior cornerback Kevin Anderson (Topsfield, Mass.) earned a spot on the Northeast-10 Conference's weekly honor roll on Monday. He posted a career-high matching eight tackles (two solo) and two interceptions for Stonehill at Bryant on Saturday. Anderson's first interception came in the end zone late in the first half, while his second set up the Skyhawks lone touchdown of the afternoon. He was also recognized as a BSN Defensive Player of the Week by Beyond Sports College Network for his efforts.
The Series: This afternoon marks the 17th meeting all-time between these programs, including the second this season and fourth over the last two years combined. Pace holds a 9-7 advantage in the all-time series after nothing a 23-20 overtime victory in the non-conference encounter between the two in Pleasantville, N.Y., on September 10. Stonehill is 5-2 all-time against the Setters here in Easton, including a 4-0 clip here at W.B. Mason Stadium. The Skyhawks posted their fourth-straight home win over Pace with a 41-33 non-league triumph here last September. Head Coach Robert Talley is 4-2 in his career against Pace.
In the Hunt: Sophomore quarterback Jesse Hunt (Winchendon, Mass.), a transfer from the University of Massachusetts, made his Stonehill and collegiate debut when he entered Saturday's game at Bryant late in the first quarter for injured sophomore Logan Meyer (Ventura, Calif.). Hunt completed 12-of-28 passes for 221 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions. He also ran the ball four times for eight yards.
They Come in Bunches: Junior cornerback Kevin Anderson's (Topsfield, Mass.) two interceptions at Bryant on Saturday give him five pickoffs for his career. His other three interceptions all came in a 22-14 victory at Assumption on October 30, 2009, also marking the last time a Stonehill player picked off two or more passes in a game.
Movin' On Up!: Junior John Gomes (Hyannis, Mass.) has moved into fourth place on Stonehill's all-time list with his 1,283 career receiving yards after his five catches for 75 yards at Bryant. He passed Matt Raione (2001-04), who caught 102 passes for 1,263 yards and seven touchdowns over his Stonehill career. Gomes has an even 100 career receptions and ten touchdowns.

He's Blogging: Stonehill junior defensive back Mickey Miela (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) is maintaining a weekly blog for the Northeast-10 Conference on its website during the 2011 season. The website offers an insight into life as an NE-10 football student-athlete and will appear on www.northeast10.org and www.stonehillskyhawks.com.
Coach's Corner: www.stonehillskyhawks.com, the official website of Stonehill athletics will have weekly interviews with head coach Rob Talley throughout the season. Coach Talley will recap the previous week's game every Tuesday and then there will be a preview of the coming week's game each Thursday or Friday. Each interview is approximately ten minutes long and will give fans an inside look at each game this season. There will also be regular interviews with Skyhawks student-athletes as well.

On Deck: The Skyhawks hits the road for the next two weeks, starting with a Northeast-10 Conference clash at Southern Connecticut State University next Saturday at 1 p.m. Stonehill returns home on Saturday, November 5, for its lone remaining home game when it hosts Saint Anselm College for the "Battle for the Ol' Bronze Hawk" on Easton and Military Appreciation Day with kickoff at noon. Stonehill will also honor its senior class prior to kickoff.
