The Game: Stonehill College hits the road for the first time in two weeks to face the University of New Haven, ranked 23rd in this week's American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division II poll, for a Northeast-10 Conference matchup at DellaCamera Stadium. The Skyhawks are looking to get back on track after three straight losses, including pair of setback to open the NE-10 schedule, after last weekend's heartbreaking 37-34 setback to American International College on Alumni Weekend. The Chargers, preseason favorites in the NE-10 and the Conference's defending champions, are coming off a 21-7 triumph at Assumption College in its NE-10 opener last Saturday night.

The Series: This afternoon marks the third meeting all-time between these two programs. New Haven has won each of the first two encounters between the two since bringing back its football program in 2009 after a five year hiatus. The Chargers scored on five-straight possessions after Stonehill jumped out to a 14-0 lead less than five minutes into the game on their way to a 49-28 triumph in Easton last fall. New Haven rallied for a last minute 23-16 victory in the only previous meeting here at DellaCamera Stadium two seasons ago. Head Coach Robert Talley is 0-2 in his career against New Haven.
Coaching History: Stonehill head coach Robert Talley and New Haven mentor Peter Rossomando are squaring off today for the third time as opposing head coaches, but the two have a bit of history between them. Both Staten Island natives, the two were teammates at Boston University during Talley's All-America senior season in 1990. In fact, Talley hosted Rossomando on his recruiting visit to BU prior to attending. Coach Rossomando has gotten the best of his former teammate so far, winning each of the first two meetings in the all-time series.

Ace's Athlete of the Week: Junior wide receiver John Gomes (Hyannis, Mass.) has been named Ace's Stonehill Male Student-Athlete of the Week, while also earning a spot on the Northeast-10 Conference's weekly honor roll. Gomes set a school record with his 14 receptions for a career-high 154 yards and three touchdowns in Saturday's setback to American International. He also added two kick returns for 34 yards to finish with a career-best 188 all-purpose yards. Gomes is the third football player to earn Ace's honor this fall, joining junior defensive back Jareed Gaines (Lumberton, N.J.) following week one and senior All-American Stephan Neville (Foxborough, Mass.) after week two.
They're Honored: Joining Gomes on the Northeast-10 weekly honor roll, released Monday, are junior running back Jermetrius Troy (Mattapan, Mass.) and sophomore quarterback Logan Meyer (Ventura, Calif.). Meyer set a school record with 30 completions on 42 attempts as he threw for 285 yards and three touchdowns against American International on Saturday. Troy rushed the ball 18 times for a career-best 130 yards and a touchdown, averaging 7.2 yards per carry. His 43 yard scoring jaunt put the Skyhawks up 34-27 with 8:19 to play. The Skyhawks triumvirate paved the way for an offense that racked up 497 yards of total offense against the Yellow Jackets.

A "Face in the Crowd": Senior All-America kick returner Stephan Neville (Foxborough, Mass.) is featured in the "Faces in the Crowd" section of the September 26 issue of Sports Illustrated on newsstands this week. Neville is recognized for breaking the NCAA Division II record for career kickoff returns set earlier this month with his ninth at Pace on September 10. He is the 12th Stonehill student-athlete to be honored in the national magazine and the first ever from the football program. He joins women's lacrosse All-Americans Katie Lambert (6/16/2003), now the head coach at Stonehill, Lauren Stone (5/10/2005) and Erin Acone (6/12/2006), field hockey standouts Caitlin Gleason (10/2/2006) and Aly Boulis (10/22/2007), Rob Pascale (12/29/2003), Brendan O'Brien (2/20/2006) and Tyler Jackson (1/11/2010) from the ice hockey team, women's basketball honorable mention All-American Kelsey Simonds (1/23/2006) and brothers Kevin and Keith Gill (4/7/2008) All-Americans for men's indoor track and field.
Who Gomes There?: Junior wide receiver John Gomes (Hyannis, Mass.) set a new school record when he caught 14 passes in Saturday's tough loss to American International, finishing with a career-high 154 yards and three touchdowns. He broke the previous record of 12 receptions in a game set by Kevin Adamson against Sacred Heart University in 1990 and later matched by Mike Plitcha against Saint Anselm College in 2005, while his 154 receiving yards is the fifth-highest single game total in W.B. Mason Stadium history. Gomes has moved into sixth place on Stonehill's career list with 1,118 receiving yards on 87 receptions with nine touchdowns. He ranks eighth in the NE-10 with 63.3 yards per game and 18 receptions, while ranking fifth with three touchdown receptions.

Passing Fancy: Sophomore quarterback Logan Meyer (Ventura, Calif.) has broken a pair of single game program records this season after completing a record 30 passes against American International last Saturday. He broke the previous record of 25 completions set by Cruz Parsons in 2005 against Saint Anselm and then matched by senior Tim Morrison (Billerica, Mass.) at Merrimack in 2009, while also posting the fourth highest passing yardage total in W.B. Mason Stadium history with his 285, firing three touchdown passes. Meyer also set a new single game program record with his 315 yards passing at Pace on September 10, breaking the previous record of 314 passing yards set by Stonehill Hall of Famer Tony Dello Iacono against Sacred Heart in 1993. Meyer leads the NE-10 averaging 257.7 passing yards per game (30th nationally) and enters today's game with 1,719 career passing yards - good for ninth on the program's career passing list and just 63 behind Brian Scheidel (1999-2001) for eighth all-time.
He. Could. Go. All. The. Way!: Senior All-American Stephan Neville (Foxborough, Mass.) broke an NCAA Division II record with his ninth career kickoff return for a touchdown at Pace on September 10. The 88-yard return surpassed the previous record of eight set by Dave Ludy from Winona State (1991-94). Neville, who broke the record at the site of his first career return for a score against the Setters on September 13, 2008, is now just one return for a score shy of the NCAA all-divisions record of ten set by Wesley College's (III) Larry Beavers from 2004-08. Neville ranks second in the NE-10 with 31.0 yards per return (19th nationally) through three weeks.
He's Blogging: Stonehill junior defensive back Mickey Miela (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) is maintaining a weekly blog for the Northeast-10 Conference on its website during the 2011 season. The website offers an insight into life as an NE-10 football student-athlete and will appear on www.northeast10.org and www.stonehillskyhawks.com.
Leaders of the Pack: For the third-straight year, Stonehill College is partnering with Pack Networks to provide live "Packcasts" of all home football and men's and women's basketball games along with other select athletic events. Fans can access the webcasts via www.stonehillskyhawks.tv. Viewers can opt to purchase single-game passes for $6.99 or purchase an "All-Access" pass for $59.99, however Skyhawks Fans who sign up for an All-Access pass before October 1 will receive a $10 discount. All-Access pass members can view all Stonehill webcasts for the entire year, while also gaining access to the archives and be able to watch the webcasts at any time.
Coach's Corner: www.stonehillskyhawks.com, the official website of Stonehill athletics will have weekly interviews with head coach Rob Talley throughout the season. Coach Talley will recap the previous week's game every Tuesday and then there will be a preview of the coming week's game each Thursday or Friday. Each interview is approximately ten minutes long and will give fans an inside look at each game this season. There will also be regular interviews with Skyhawks student-athletes as well.

On Deck: The Skyhawks are back on the road next Saturday when it visits former Northeast-10 Conference member Bryant University, now an NCAA Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) program, for its final non-conference contest of the season. Stonehill returns home the following Saturday, October 15, when it hosts Pace University for a Northeast-10 clash on Family Weekend at 1 p.m.
