The Game: Stonehill College looks to get its season off to a 2-0 start for the second-straight year as it visits Pace University for a non-conference clash at Finnerty Field this afternoon. The Skyhawks will look to build off a 35-7 victory over Curry College in Easton, Mass., last Friday night, while the Setters will be trying to bounce back from a 56-14 loss at East Stroudsburg University on Thursday.

For Henry: The Stonehill football team has dedicated its 2011 season in the memory of former teammate and friend, Henry Thevenin, '14, who passed away on June 14 due to complications from a two-month battle with leukemia. The Skyhawks will wear helmet decals with the number 91, Thevenin's #91 jersey will accompany the team at every game and his locker stands in a place of prominence in the team lockerroom. In week one against Curry, the College honored Thevenin with a Moment of Applause and the team played its first defensive play with ten players. Thevenin appeared in seven games for the football team, starting the last six, as freshman in 2010. He totaled 18 tackles, eight solo, with a pass breakup for the Skyhawks. Thevenin was a 2009 graduate of nearby Brockton High School and prepped one year at Suffield Academy in Connecticut.
The Series: This afternoon marks the 16th meeting all-time between these two programs. Pace is hanging on to an 8-7 advantage in the all-time series that dates back to 1995, but Stonehill has won the last three encounters, including two wins during the 2010 season. The Skyhawks posted a 41-33 triumph in the non-conference meeting in Easton last September, before posting a 27-0 win in the NE-10 matchup here in Pleasantville in October. Stonehill is just 2-6 all-time here at Finnerty Field after last season's win. Head Coach Robert Talley is 4-1 in his career against Pace.

Never Forgotten: Stonehill athletics sends its thoughts to all families affected by the events of 9/11 as the country recognized the tenth anniversary this weekend. The College lost three alumni and one Holy Cross priest during the attacks, including Tim Coughlin (COG-lin), '80 a former captain of the football team. Coughlin, a senior managing director at Cantor Fitzgerald, left behind his wife Maura and three young children. The football field at W.B. Mason Stadium has been named in his honor. Also lost were Fr. Francis Grogan, CSC, James Hayden, '76 and Tim Reilly, '82.
It's a Boy!: Congratulations to head coach Robert Talley and wife, Sarah, who welcomed their second son, Spencer, into the world on Wednesday! Spencer weighed in at nine-points, three ounces, and 22-inches long. He also shares a birthday (Sept. 7) with Henry Thevenin.
He's Honored: Junior defensive back Jareed Gaines (Lumberton, N.J.) has named to the Northeast-10 Conference's weekly honor roll on Monday. He led a Skyhawks defense which held Curry to just seven points and forced four turnovers in Friday's 35-7 win, finishing with ten tackles (five solo), including two for a loss of six yards, a sack and two fumble recoveries. Gaines also earned Ace's Stonehill Male Student-Athlete of the Week honors for his efforts.
Preseason All-American: Stonehill senior captain Stephan Neville (Foxborough, Mass.) has been named a consensus All-American after earning All-America honors from the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) as a kick returner last fall to become the first All-American in program history. Neville led the Northeast-10 for the second-straight year by averaging 30.9 yards per kickoff return (3rd nationally) while matching an NCAA Division II record with four returns for a touchdown. He returned 25 kickoffs for 773 yards, including a career-long matching 94 yard return for a score against NE-10 champions University of New Haven on October 8. Neville finished second on the team with 848 all-purpose yards, adding six punt returns for 38 yards and 37 interception return yards.

He. Could. Go. All. The. Way!: Senior All-American Stephan Neville (Foxborough, Mass.) enters today's game with an NCAA Division II record matching eight kickoff returns for a touchdown over his career at Stonehill. He returned a school and Division II record four kickoffs for touchdowns last season and has matched the Division II career total set by Dave Ludy from Winona State from 1991-94. Neville didn't return a kick for a touchdown last week against Curry, but averaged 17.5 yards on his two kick returns and eight yards on two punt returns.
He's Blogging: Stonehill junior defensive back Mickey Miela (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) will be maintaining a weekly blog for the Northeast-10 Conference on its website during the 2010 season. The website will offer an insight into life as an NE-10 football student-athlete and will appear on www.northeast10.org and www.stonehillskyhawks.com.
Coach's Corner: www.stonehillskyhawks.com, the official website of Stonehill athletics will have weekly interviews with head coach Rob Talley throughout the season. Coach Talley will recap the previous week's game every Tuesday and then there will be a preview of the coming week's game each Thursday or Friday. Each interview is approximately ten minutes long and will give fans an inside look at each game this season. There will also be regular interviews with Skyhawks student-athletes as well.
