As far back as his own playing days as a quarterback for Beverly High School in the mid-1980s, Andrew Morency he'd like to coach when his own football playing days were over.

Soon after graduating from Stonehill College in 1991 (where he also played football), Morency began his coaching apprenticeship. He spent six years at his alma mater before moving over the bridge to arch rival Salem High for a pair of years, then returned to Beverly for three more. It was then, in 2006, that Morency achieved his goal of becoming a head coach, doing so at Hamilton-Wenham Regional.

Five years later, Morency took a team that had won only two of 10 games the previous fall and turned them into Cape Ann League Small champions. More importantly, he and his coaching staff helped guide the Generals to their first-ever postseason appearance in the Division 3A playoffs.

Morency's team finished the year with an 8-3 record; he has a 28-23 overall record in his time at the regional school. His credits much of his success not only to his assistant coaches and former coaches (particularly Bill Hamor in Beverly), but also to the Boosters Club in town for spending hundreds of hours raising money for the H-W football program to keep it vibrant.

A Beverly High School Athletic Hall of Famer who captained the football, basketball and baseball teams his senior year of high school, the 41-year-old Morency is a history teacher at both the Miles River Middle School in Hamilton and also in the 11th grade at the high school. He thanks his parents, Roger and Emily, siblings Ann Marie and John, and Yael for all their support over the years.
