Moscato touchdown catch sparks ten unanswered points for Falcons

Senior tight end Tim Moscato (Naples, Fla./Naples) caught his first career touchdown pass for Bentley and classmate Paul Branco (Brockton, Mass./Brockton) kicked his second field goal of the afternoon with a 29-yarder with 49-seconds to play to seal the Falcons fourth-straight win. Bentley posted 426 yards of total offense on the afternoon, with 243 rushing and 183 rushing, and finished with 33:44 of possession time, taking advantage of four Stonehill turnovers.

Junior running back Bobby Tarr (Byfield, Mass./Bishop Fenwick) carried the ball 23 times for 149 yards for Bentley, while senior quarterback Bryant Johnson (Hopedale, Mass./Milford) completed 21-of-32 passes for 243 yards and a touchdown with one interception. He also added a touchdown on the ground, finishing with 19 yards on eight carries. Senior Kyle Tuthill (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) caught eight passes for 88 yards.

Junior Matthew Iannucci led the Skyhawks with 11 tackles, collecting his third interception of the year.

Senior Greg O'Brien (Canton, Mass./Xaverian Brothers) led the Bentley defense with a game-high 11 tackles (two solo), including 1.5 for a loss of two yards, with a sack for a loss of one. Classmate Matt Shea (Walpole, Mass./Xaverian Brothers) added eight stops (six solo) and a fumble recovery, while junior Steve Hopkins (Waltham, Mass./Waltham) contributed seven tackles (six solo), a fumble recovery and two pass breakups.

Stonehill finished with 343 yards of total offense, with 187 on the ground and 156 through the air. Senior Eddie Vachon (Newton, Mass./Blair Academy) brought to a close his record breaking career with 22 carries for 111 yards and a touchdown. He finished his career with a school-record 3,019 yards on a record 646 carries and is the lone player in program history to surpass 3,000 career yards. Vachon's one-yard touchdown run in the third quarter was his 14^th of the season, setting a new single-season record at the College and adding to his career records of 27 career rushing and 34 career touchdowns overall. He also capped his career with a program-record 4,689 career all-purpose yards.

Junior quarterback Tim Morrison (Billerica, Mass./Billerica Memorial) completed 15-of-29 passes for 156 yards and an interception, to go with 17 yards on seven carries. Sophomore John Gomes (Hyannis, Mass./Barnstable) caught four passes for 64 yards, while freshman Paul Piccirillo (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) had five receptions for 42 yards. Sophomore Jermetrius Troy (Mattapan, Mass./Tilton School) chipped in with nine carries for 49 yards and a score.

Junior Matthew Iannucci (Oakland, N.J./Indian Hills) led Stonehill on defense with ten tackles (seven solo) and an interception. Sophomore Jareed Gaines (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley) added nine stops (four solo), with 0.5 for a loss, a fumble recovery and quarterback hurry. Classmate Jonathan Poth (Nahant, Mass./Swampscott) contributed eight tackles (two solo) to finish with an even 100 for the season.

Stonehill, seeking its first winning season since 1996, held a 10-7 lead after Troy capped a ten play, 79-yard drive, with a two yard plunge for his fifth touchdown of the year 3:12 into the second quarter. Bentley regained the lead when Johnson scored from a yard out with 8:42 left in the half at the end of a five-play, 71-yard drive on the Falcons ensuing possession. The Falcons carried a seven point lead into halftime when Branco converted a 45-yard field goal as time expired in the half.

Stonehill knotted the game on its first drive of the second half when Vachon scored from a yard out at the end of a 13-play, 59-yard drive. Bentley regained the lead for good with 3:57 left in the third when Johnson hit Moscato from six yards out at the end of an eight play, 43-yard drive. Branco sealed the win with 49-seconds left with his 29-yard boot. The Falcons last two scores came off Stonehill turnovers.

Stonehill opened the scoring on its first offensive possession when it drove to the Bentley four before settling for a 21-yard field goal from freshman Michael Kielbasa (Ludlow, Mass./Loomis Chaffee). Bentley answered on its next drive as freshman Lorenzo Warren (Boston, Mass./Catholic Memorial) scored from a yard out at the end of a six play, 65-yard drive.

Stonehill finishes the season with a 5-5 record overall, 3-5 in the NE-10, marking the third time in four years under head coach Robert Talley the Skyhawks have finished with a .500 record. Bentley caps its season with a 5-4 overall record and a 6-2 NE-10 clip after being awarded a Conference win earlier this week for its canceled game against Pace University to finish in a four-way tie atop the NE-10 standings.
