The Game: Stonehill College returns home to host Southern Connecticut State University for a Northeast-10 Conference matchup at Timothy J. Coughlin (COG-lin) Memorial Field at W.B. Mason Stadium this afternoon as part of Family Weekend at the College. Additionally, the athletic department has made today Breast Cancer Awareness Day at its home events. The Skyhawks are looking to build off its first NE-10 win of the season with its 27-0 victory last Saturday at Pace University, while the Owls are looking to halt a two game skid after last weekend's 36-26 home setback to Bentley University.

Remembering "DJ": Stonehill College and the football progam sends its deepest sympathies and prayers to the family of Easton, Mass., native Danroy "DJ" Henry, the Pace University football program and the entire Pace University community after the tragic events following their Homecoming Weekend game against the Skyhawks last weekend. The College and football team also sends its thoughts and prayers to junior Brandon Cox and his family at this time as well. We will observe a moment of silence prior to today's game in DJ Henry's memory. Stonehill Head Coach Robert Talley statement (PDF)

Breast Cancer Awareness Month: Stonehill College is recognizing Breast Cancer Awareness Month with today's football and men's soccer games on campus. The teams are wearing a combination of pink wristbands and warmups during the game and fans have also been encouraged to wear pink to the games as well in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Donations are also being accepted and will be given to the American Cancer Society and Women's Cancer Programs of the Entertainment Industry Foundation.

Jareed Gaines

Defensive Player of the Week: Stonehill sophomore defensive back Jareed Gaines (Lumberton, N.J.) was named the Northeast-10 Conference's Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Skyhawks to their first shutout victory in nearly two full seasons. He posted six tackles (four solo), including 3.0 for a loss of 17 yards, a sack for a loss of 12, a fumble recovery and interception in the 27-0 victory. The Skyhawks defense limited Pace to just 135 yards of total offense and nine first downs with four turnovers.

They're Honored: Senior running back Eddie Vachon (Newton, Mass.) and junior linebacker Cameron Marston (Gloucester, Mass.) were both named to the Northeast-10's weekly honor roll on Monday. Vachon posted 195 all-purpose yards, keyed by 25 rushes for 122 yards and a school-record matching four touchdowns in Saturday's 27-0 win at Pace. Marston helped guide the Skyhawks defense to its first shutout in nearly two years with a team-high seven tackles (five solo), including 3.0 for a loss of 14 yards, a sack and forced fumble on Saturday at Pace.

Eddie Vachon

Record Breaking Eddie: Senior captain Eddie Vachon (Newton, Mass.), who has already set program records for career all-purpose yards (4,235), career rushing attempts (552), career rushing touchdowns (24) and total touchdowns scored (31), enters today's game just 26 yards shy of Tyrone Jefferson's career mark for rushing yards (2,701) set from 1998-00. Vachon is also just two touchdowns away from matching the program's single season record of 13 set by Mike Plichta in 2005 and his nine rushing touchdowns this year is just two shy of Mike McSharry's single season record of 11 set in 1995.
