Ball-Hawks
Last year's Stonehill squad only had three interceptions in 10 games. The 2007 edition matched that number with a three-pick performance against Assumption. Jared Zanello (Walpole, Mass.) had two of them, the second and third of his career. Mike DeBye (Burlington, Mass.) had the other one in the win over the Greyhounds.
Two More
Chris Palmer (Santa Barbara, Calif.) and Zanello each grabbed one in the win over Pace and now Zanello ranks second in the Conference in interceptions.
Product of the 60's
It had been 60 games since the Skyhawks held an opponent scoreless before its shutout win over Pace. The last shutout came in the third contest of the 2001 season, a 37-0 blanking of Mt. Ida. In that same span, Stonehill had been shutout six times.
Halfway There
Stonehill scored 10 touchdowns in 2006. In two games this season, they have five.
Almost Halfway
2006 produced only 84 points in 10 contests. Two games in to 2007 and the Skyhawks have 43.
Two Is Plenty
J.J. Niamkey (Quincy, Mass.) caught two passes for 101 yards and two touchdowns in the win over Pace. The catches were the first scoring grabs of his career.
My Name Goes There
With Niamkey going over the century mark in receiving yards, he become the first Skyhawk receiver to top that mark since Mike Plichta had a 153-yard performance against Merrimack in 2005.
Might As Well Punt
The Skyhawk defense has been a brickwall on fourth down, denying its opponents first downs on all four attempts this season.
Major Payne
Jeffery Payne (West Haven, Conn.) is the only Skyhawk ballcarrier who hasn't lost yardage on a carry this season. Payne has 18 carreis for 77 yards and a touchdown in two games.
A Hero Among Us
Senior Chris Regan (Hanson, Mass.) was named a Herald Hero in Monday's edition of the Boston Herald after posting seven tackles and a pass break-up in the win over Pace.
Post Position
Stonehill trails the season series with the Pioneers, 10-0. Last year's matchup was the second closest in series history with the Skyhawks falling, 24-20.
Red-Zone Rebuff
The Skyhawk defense turned away the Assumption offense three times inside the redzone. Zanello made a diving interception to turn them away once and DeBye keyed two, fourth down, fourth quarter stops inside the 20 to preserve the win.
Red Means Green
The Skyhawk offense turns it up a notch inside the opponent's 20-yard line. In four opportunities, Stonehill is 4-for-4 with two touchdowns and two field goals.
First Half Adjustment
The Skyhawks defense has yet to yield a point in the first 30 minutes in either game, outscoring its opponents, 27-0.
Giving Them The Boot
Sean Donahue (Plymouth, N.H.) kicked two field goals (37, 29) in the season-opening win over Assumption. In the win over Pace he added a 39-yarder, making him 3-for-3 thus far this season.
Eddie Is Money
In his first two college contests, freshman Eddie Vachon (Newton, Mass.) has 197 all-purpose yards. He is second on the team with 76 receiving yards and first in rushing with 118.
Cruz-ing Along
Cruz Parsons (Signal Hill, Calif.) ranks second in the Northeast-10 is passer efficiency with a 143.46 rating. He has completed passes to six different receivers and thrown three touchdowns and only one interception.
Lost And Found
Kevin Bonnett (Manchester, N.H.) and Niamkey each recovered fumbles in the win over Pace. Niamkey's came courtesy of a muffed punt while Bonnett's recovery came after freshman Brenden Taylor (Stoughton, Mass.) stripped a Setters ballcarrier.
Your Loss, My Gain
The Skyhawks rank second in the Conference in turnover ratio at +5. C.W. Post sits atop the ranking with a +6, registering seven takeaways and only one giveaway.
Pringle's Single
In the win over Assumption, David Pringle's (West Haven, Conn.) lone catch was a 44-yard touchdown grab.
