SPRINGFIELD, Mass.-- Senior Marlon Beckles (Brooklyn, N.Y.) rushed for 134 yards and a pair of touchdowns to lead American International to a 28-6 Northeast-10 Conference football victory over Stonehill Saturday afternoon at John Homer Miller Field.

Beckles gave the host Yellow Jackets (6-3, 6-3 Northeast-10) a 6-0 lead midway through the opening quarter with a seven-yard scoring run that capped a nine-play, 63-yard drive, but the visiting Skyhawks, who close out their season at 1-9 overall and 1-8 in Northeast-10 play, sliced their deficit in half when junior Sean Donahue (Plymouth, N.H.) booted a 33-yard field goal in the first minute of the second stanza that was set-up on a 53-yard run by senior quarterback Paul Stone (Somerville, Mass.). Beckles added a 20-yard scoring scamper on the ensuing American International drive to give the hosts a 12-3 lead at the break, and Stonehill got back on the board on its first possession after intermission when sophomore George Whetstone (Westwood, Mass.) forced a Yellow Jacket fumble at the AIC 35-yard line, setting up Donahue's 34-yard field goal that made it a 12-6 game with 9:50 remaining in the third quarter.

American International used a 10-play, 80-yard drive over a 4:36 span that was capped on a nine-yard touchdown run by sophomore Jonathan Thorpe (East Longmeadow, Mass.) with 3:16 to play in the third stanza, and the Yellow Jackets closed out the scoring early in the fourth quarter when senior Mike Rafferty (Wheatley Heights, N.Y.) forced a fumble that was recovered by freshman Terrence Holley (Bronx, N.Y.) and returned 24 yards for the final touchdown of the afternoon.

The Yellow Jackets amassed 309 yards of total offense for the day, as senior quarterback Jared Corbin (Brooklyn, N.Y.) threw for 157 yards on nine completions. All 149 yards of Stonehill's total offense came on the ground, as Stone rushed for 94 yards on 15 carries in his final collegiate outing. Fellow senior Cliff Mason II (Santa Ana, Calif.) added 49 rushing yards on 12 carries as well for the Skyhawks.

Holley registered 11 total tackles (four solo) to go with his fumble recovery touchdown to lead American International on the defensive side, while junior Mike DeBye (Burlington, Mass.) recorded 11 total tackles (four solo) and a sack to lead the way defensively for Stonehill.

American International closes out its 2006 schedule next Saturday afternoon when the Yellow Jackets travel to Waltham, Mass. to take on Bentley in a non-league outing that kicks off at 1:00 p.m.
