Equestrian Leads Region After Second High Point Performance of the Season

McConville qualified for her second Zone 1, Region 4 Championship


The Skyhawks take over first place in the region after totaling five blue ribbons in their final show of the season

GEORGETOWN, Massachusetts (March 9, 2018) – The Stonehill College equestrian team wrapped up the season with a first-place finish at Autumn Sky Farm, hosted by Endicott College on Saturday in its final Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Zone 1, Region 4 show.

This is the second high point performance of the season for the team as they earned their first on November 11 at Boston College before they headed to break. With the blue ribbon, Stonehill now takes over the lead in the region heading into Championship season.

The Skyhawks were led by five first-place ribbons and three qualifying performances. Stonehill's individual blue ribbons were awarded to junior Emma McConvillejunior Laura Solarjunior Mariah Hansonsophomore Molly McCutcheonand freshman Olivia Cerretani.

McConville finished first in open fences equitation, while she also earned third place in open flat. The junior qualified for her second Zone 1, Region 4 Championships in her career with her blue ribbon in open fences. This is her third blue ribbon of the season.

Hanson, also a junior, also qualified for her second Zone 1, Region 4 Championships in novice flat and intermediate fences. She earned her eighth first-place ribbon of the year in novice flat, while finishing third in intermediate fences.

Sophomore McCutcheon was the third Skyhawk to qualify for regionals and this will be her first appearance in Zone 1, Region 4 Championships after earning her second blue ribbon of the season in walk-trot-canter.

Solar, a junior, picked up her third blue ribbon of the year as she finished first in intermediate flat at Saturday's show. She also showed in novice fences where she placed fourth. Cerretani was the final Skyhawk to earn first place as she rode in walk trot equitation for her first-collegiate blue ribbon.

Sophomore Kylie Katz competed in both intermediate fences and flat, where she earned third and fifth, place respectively. Sophomore Marianne Kenney represented Stonehill in novice fences, earning second place, her first in her career. Junior Kaitlin Kotfila won fourth place in open flat to round out the Skyhawks' individual ribbons.

The Skyhawks will take some time off, as they continue training to compete at the IHSA Zone Region 4 Championships on Friday, March 29.
