Kimbar Leads Equestrian on Opening Weekend

Skyhawk riders earn five blue ribbons, led by Kimbar's high point performance on Sunday

EASTON, Mass. (October 18, 2016) – The Stonehill College equestrian team opened its 2016-17 season with a pair of Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Zone 1, Region 4 events at Brandeis University on Saturday and then its home show at Winters End Farm in Stoughton, Massachusetts, on Sunday. 

Stonehill Home Show

Junior Baylee Kimbar (Worcester, Massachusetts/West Boylston) earned high point rider status to lead four blue ribbon performances as Stonehill took second place at its home show on Sunday. The Skyhawks accumulated 34 points to finish behind Boston University (38 points), which also took first place at Brandeis on Saturday.

Kimbar placed first for both intermediate equitation on the fences and on the flat on Sunday to highlight the show for Stonehill. Seniors Nina Fultz (Littleton, Massachusetts/Littleton) and Kayla McNulty (Tyngsboro, Massachusetts/Academy of Notre Dame) both also earned blue ribbons for the Skyhawks for novice fences and walk-trot-canter, respectively.

Second place finishes went to freshman Emma McConville (North Attleboro, Massachusetts/Wheeler School) for both intermediate fences and novice flat in her first IHSA show, while classmate Kaitlin Kotfila (Hadley, Massachusetts/Hopkins Academy) also had a strong IHSA debut with a second place ribbon for intermediate flat.

Junior Caitlyn Maloney (Chepachet, Rhode Island/LaSalle Academy) competed in both open classes, posting a fourth place finish on the flat to go with a sixth place show over fences. Senior captain Kristin Buckley (Leominster, Massachusetts/Saint Bernard's) collected a fourth place ribbon for walk-trot-canter, while classmate Allison Calder (Mansfield, Massachusetts/Mansfield) was fifth for walk-trot.

Brandeis Show

Senior Micaela Caulkins (Old Lyme, Connecticut/Old Lyme) highlighted the accomplishments for Stonehill at its season-opening show hosted by Brandeis on Saturday at August Farm in Holliston, Massachusetts. She is the first Stonehill rider to qualify for the IHSA Zone 1, Region 4 Championships next spring after her point total following a sixth place finish for intermediate fences.

Kayla McNulty started her season off with a first place finish for walk-trot-canter, which she would double the next day at Stonehill, while Kristin Buckley placed second. Nina Fultz earned a red ribbon for novice fences, while placing fourth for novice flat, and junior Abigail Westerlind (Auburn, Massachusetts/Auburn) was second in novice flat.

Freshman Laura Solar (Melville, New York/Our Lady of Mercy Academy) was solid in her IHSA horse show debut with a third place finish for novice fences, while Allison Calder earned a fifth place ribbon in her IHSA debut. 

Stonehill is back in action on Saturday, October 29, at the Boston College Show at Hillside Meadows Equestrian Center in Grafton, Massachusetts, at 9 a.m.
