Equestrian Season Wraps Up at Regional Championships

Four Skyhawk riders place third, just short of Zone 1 Championship qualification

HANOVER, Mass. (April 4, 2016) – The Stonehill College equestrian team rounded out its 2015-16 season at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Zone 1, Region 4 Championships, hosted by Boston University, at Holly Hill Show Stables on Saturday.

None of Stonehill's ten regional qualifiers placed in the top two to advance to the IHSA Zone 1 Championships at Mount Holyoke University, bringing the Skyhawks season to a close.

Stonehill riders earned third place ribbons in four events at the championship, led by senior Laura Haynes (Avon, Connecticut/Avon) for open equitation over fences. Junior Serafine Torregiano (Saratoga Springs, New York/Saratoga Springs) earned a yellow ribbon for intermediate equitation on the flat to go with a fifth place show for intermediate fences. Classmate Kayla McNulty (Tyngsboro, Massachusetts/Academy of Notre Dame) placed third in walk-trot equitation, while sophomore Baylee Kimbar (Worcester, Massachusetts/West Babylon) earned a third place ribbon for novice flat, while also placing fifth in novice fences.

Stonehill also collected a trio of seventh place shows, with senior Fiona Carroll (Alexandria, Virginia/Bishop Ireton) doing so for novice fences. Classmate Dara D'Agostino (Canton, Massachusetts/Canton) earned a purple ribbon for novice flat, while senior Emma Zameirowski (Winchester, Massachusetts/Winchester), the 2014 IHSA National Champion for walk-trot, capped her collegiate career with a seventh place show for walk-trot-canter.

Stonehill finished the 2015-16 season second in the region as a team with 268 points. Tufts University took the team title in Region 4, while Boston University was third.
