Equestrian Places Third at Worcester State Show

Westerlind and McNulty earn blue ribbons for Skyhawks on opening weekend 

BERLIN, Mass. (October 6, 2015) – The Stonehill College equestrian team opened its season with a third place finish at the Worcester State University show, hosted by Maplewood Farm, this weekend.

Stonehill recorded 30 points on the day for its third place finish, which was won by Tufts University with 40 points. Boston University took second place with 32 points. Junior Kayla McNulty (Tyngsboro, Massachusetts/Academy of Notre Dame) and sophomore Abigail Westerlind (Auburn, Massachusetts/Auburn) led the Skyhawks with blue ribbon efforts at the show. McNulty took first place for walk-trot equitation, while Westerlind was first for walk-trot-canter. Senior Emma Zamierowski (Winchester, Massachusetts/Winchester), the 2014 IHSA National Champion for walk-trot, placed sixth for walk-trot-canter.

Junior Serafine Torregiano (Saratoga Springs, New York/Saratoga Springs) placed second for intermediate equitation on the flat to go with a fourth place show for intermediate equitation over fences. Junior Taylor Uccello (Westford, Massachusetts/Westford Academy) also turned in a second place show for novice flat, while senior Shannon Aceto (Cranston, Rhode Island/La Salle Academy) placed sixth.

Senior Molly Machain (Andover, Massachusetts/Andover) placed fifth for novice fences, while freshman Ashley Murray (Canton, Connecticut/Canton) was sixth for open flat in her first collegiate show.

Stonehill is back in action with a pair of shows this weekend. The Skyhawks are at Northeastern University, hosted by River Wind Farm in Pembroke, Massachusetts, on Saturday, and then Brandeis University, hosted by August Farm in Holliston, Massachusetts, on Sunday. Both shows start at 9 a.m.
