Stonehill Sends Seven Individuals to Regionals

Dolan punches Skyhawks first ticket to nationals as Region 4 Cacchione Cup representative

EASTON, Mass. (March 29, 2013) – The Stonehill College equestrian team finished second in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Zone 1, Region 4 standings, but will send seven individuals to the Region 4 Championships on Friday night. Senior Emily Dolan (Lacrosse, Wis./Aquinas) will also represent Stonehill as Region 4's representative in the Cacchione Cup competition at the IHSA National Championships in Harrisburg, Pa., in May.

Dolan, who will compete at the Zone 1, Region 4 Championships on Friday night in both open equitation over fences and open equitation on the flat, joined by six teammates at the event to be held on Friday night in Pembroke, Mass., at 6 p.m. It marks the second-straight year Stonehill will have a rider competing in the Cacchione Cup competition for top rider honors for open hunter seat as classmate Cassandra Lorusso (Wrentham, Mass./Dana Hall School) competed and placed 19th last May.

Sophomore Danielle Franchi (Islip, N.Y./Islip) will join Dolan in the open fences competition at the Region 4 championships. Seniors Samantha Lindquist (West Bridgewater, Mass./West Bridgewater) and Martina Tramontozzi (Melrose, Mass./Melrose) have qualified for novice flat. Senior Kerry McCarthy (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Warde) and sophomore Kayleigh McDonnell (Rutland, Vt./Rutland) will compete for walk trot canter, while junior Caitlin Wright (Old Lyme, Conn./Mercy) has qualified for walk trot.

Franchi led four blue ribbon performances for Stonehill at its home show last weekend to close out the regular season schedule with a first place finish in her open flat class, while placing fifth in open fences. Dolan placed second in open flat and fourth for open fences.

Freshman Rachel Fox (Smithfield, R.I./Smithfield) earned a blue ribbon with her first place finish in her intermediate flat class, while Tramontozzi placed third. Sophomore Cassandra Otis (Downingtown, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) placed first for novice flat, while senior Megan Payne (Encinitas, Calif./Academy of Our Lady of Peace) finished first in her walk trot canter class. Wright placed sixth in walk trot canter.

Senior Hanna Pattie (Newburyport, Mass./Brewster Academy) placed second in her intermediate fences class, while McDonnell and freshman Dara D'Agostino (Canton, Mass./Canton) both placed second for novice fences. Freshman Laura Haynes (Avon, Conn./Avon) placed third for intermediate fences, while classmate Emma Zamierowski (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) was third in walk trot.

Stonehill finished second in the IHSA Zone 1, Region 4, team standings behind Tufts University, moving past third place Boston University with the results from Saturday's home show.

Individuals who finish in the top two for their respective events on Friday night will qualify for the IHSA Zone 1 Championships, hosted by Mount Holyoke University in South Hadley, Mass., on April 6.
