Stonehill Competes at Two Weekend Shows

Skyhawks claim High Point Team honors at Curry, place fifth at Brandeis

EASTON, Mass. (March 19, 2013) – The Stonehill College equestrian team claimed its first High Point Team performance of the season and sits in third place in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Zone 1, Region 4 standings heading into its final show after competing in two shows over the weekend at Curry College on Saturday and Brandeis University on Sunday.

Stonehill claimed High Point Team honors for the first time this season with its top finish at Saturday's Curry show, hosted by Holloway Brook Farm in Lakeville, Mass. Five Stonehill riders posted blue ribbon performances, led by sophomore Danielle Franchi (Islip, N.Y./Islip) who placed first in open equitation on the flat, while placing second in her open equitation over fences class. Senior Emily Dolan (Lacrosse, Wis./Aquinas) placed first for open fences, while finishing fourth for open flat.

Senior Martina Tramontozzi (Melrose, Mass./Melrose) earned a blue ribbon for her intermediate flat class, while sophomore Kayleigh McDonnell (Rutland, Vt./Rutland) finished first in her novice fences class. Freshman Emma Zamierowski (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) rounded out the blue ribbon winners for Stonehill on Saturday with her first place showing in walk-trot.

Freshman Laura Haynes (Avon, Conn./Avon) placed second in her intermediate fences class, while junior Kristen Stachnik (Westhampton, Mass./Westhampton Beach) finished third in her intermediate flat class. Fourth place finishes went to sophomore Cassandra Otis (Downingtown, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) in novice flat as well as seniors Amanda LeBlanc (Allen, Texas/Morgan Park Academy (Ill.)) and Kerry McCarthy (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield-Warde) in their walk-trot-canter classes.

Stonehill followed that up with a fifth place showing at Sunday's show at Brandeis, hosted by August Farm in Holliston. Dolan led four blue ribbon winners at the event with her first place finish for open fences, while also placing second on open flat. Otis placed first in her novice flat class, while senior Megan Payne (Encinitas, Calif./Academy of Our Lady of Peace) and McCarthy both placed first in their walk-trot-canter classes.

Senior Hanna Pattie (Newburyport, Mass./Brewster Academy) finished second in her intermediate fences class, while McDonnell was second for novice fences, while also placing fifth for novice flat, and Zamierowski placed second in walk-trot. Franchi added a third place showing for open fences while also finishing fifth for open flat. Freshman Dara D'Agostino (Canton, Mass./Canton) placed fifth for novice fences.

Stonehill closes out regular show season on Saturday when it hosts its spring show on Saturday, March 23, at Dry Water Farm in Stoughton at 9 a.m. Stonehill sits third in the IHSA Region 1, Zone 4 standings with 252 points, just three points behind second place Boston University and nine points behind first place Tufts University.
