Stonehill Finishes Sixth at Wellesley Show

Skyhawks fall to second in IHSA Zone 1 Region 4 standings

MEDWAY, Mass. (March 5, 2013) – The Stonehill College equestrian team dropped to second place in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Zone 1, Region 4 standings with its sixth place finish at the Wellesley College Show, hosted by Rising Star Equestrian Center, on Sunday.

Stonehill saw two riders earn blue ribbons at the event with three others claiming second place finishes. The Skyhawks dropped to second in the region standings and now trail Tufts University by seven points with three shows remaining.

Sophomore Danielle Franchi (Islip, N.Y./Islip) led Stonehill by placing first in open equitation over fences and then adding a sixth place showing in open equitation on the flat. Freshman Laura Haynes (Avon, Conn./Avon) added a blue ribbon for her first place finish in intermediate fences.


Lindquist

Senior Samantha Lindquist (West Bridgewater, Mass./West Bridgewater) placed second for her novice flat class, earning enough points to qualify for the Region 4 Championships in Hanover, Mass., at the end of the month. Freshman Rachel Fox (Smithfield, R.I./Smithfield) placed second in her intermediate flat class, while classmate Chloe Robertson (Marion, Mass./Old Rochester Regional) finished second for walk-trot-canter.

Juniors Sara Kelly (Braintree, Mass./Braintree) and Kristen Stachnik (Westhampton, N.Y./Westhampton Beach) both placed third in their intermediate fences classes, while senior Emily Dolan (Lacrosse, Wis./Aquinas) finished fourth for open fences. Freshman Emma Zamierowski (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) also turned in a fourth place showing in walk-trot.

Fifth place finishes for Stonehill went to senior Martina Tramontozzi (Melrose, Mass./Melrose) for intermediate flat and freshman Dara D'Agostino (Canton, Mass./Canton) for novice fences.

Stonehill is off until Saturday, March 16, when it participates in the Curry College Show at Holloway Brook Farm in Lakeville, Mass. Stonehill will host its spring show on Saturday, March 23, at Dry Water Farm in Stoughton at 9 a.m.
