Stonehill Opens Spring Season at IHSA Winter Tournament of Champions

Dolan places fifth in Open Medal Class to highlight Skyhawk riders

WEYERS CAVE, Va. (January 28, 2013) – The Stonehill College equestrian team opened its spring semester schedule by competing at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Winter Tournament of Champions, hosted by Bridgewater College, at the Bridgewater College Equestrian Center on Saturday.

Senior Emily Dolan (Lacrosse, Wis./Aquinas) led the way for Stonehill with a fifth place finish in the Individual Open Medal Class. The first phase was on the flat with 22 of the top riders on the East Coast. The top 11 riders were called back to jump for the second phase over fences, with five of the 11 called back to test for the final phase.

Freshman Emma Zamierowski (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) placed sixth in walk-trot equitation, while sophomore Cassandra Otis (Downingtown, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) finished sixth in novice equitation over fences. Sophomore Danielle Franchi (Islip, N.Y./Islip) turned in an eighth place finish for open fences, while senior Megan Payne (Encinitas, Calif./Academy of Our Lady of Peace) turned in an eight place finish for walk-trot-canter.

21 of the top equestrian programs from the IHSA on the East Coast competed at the event on Saturday, which was won by host Bridgewater College.

Stonehill returns to action on Saturday, February 23, when it participates in the Boston College Show, hosted by Saddle Row Farm in Medway, Mass., at 9 a.m.
