Stonehill Second at Tufts Show

Lorusso high point rider to lead Skyhawks at first show of season

HOLLISTON, Mass. (October 8, 2011) – The Stonehill College equestrian team opened its 2011-12 season with a second place finish at the Tufts University Show at August Farm today. The Skyhawks compiled 37 points at the event to place second behind host Tufts with 39.

Junior Cassandra Lorusso (Wrentham, Mass./Dana Hall School) earned high point rider honors at the event to lead Stonehill. She took first place ribbons for both open equitation on the flat and open equitation over fences.

Also taking first place honors for the Skyhawks were junior Samantha Lindquist (West Bridgewater, Mass./West Bridgewater) and freshman Cassandra Otis (Downingtown, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) in their respective novice fences classes.

Earning second place ribbons for Stonehill were senior Nina Crossley (Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J./Northern Highlands Regional), for flat, Christine Dwyer (Park City, Utah/Kentucky Country Day), for fences, and freshman Danielle Franchi (Islip, N.Y./Islip) for fences.

Placing third today were senior Alexandra Keller (South Burlington, Vt./Stoneleigh-Burnham School), junior Emily Dolan (Lacrosse, Wis./Aquinas), for fences, and sophomore Caitlin Wright (Old Lyme, Conn./Mercy) on the flat.

Stonehill is back in action next Saturday for the Wheaton College Show at Phoenix Rising Horse Farm in Smithfield, R.I., starting at 9 a.m.
