Stonehill Pads Lead atop Region 4, Places Second at Mount Ida

Skyhawks dominate fences with four class wins

PEMBROKE, Mass. (March 14, 2011) – The Stonehill College equestrian team placed second at the Mount Ida College home show on Sunday, increasing its lead atop the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Zone 1, Region 4 standings from three points to nine, at River Wind Farm. The Skyhawks were edged by host Mount Ida by just two points.

Senior Kayla Schneider (Vernon, Conn./Rockville) led four Stonehill riders to earn first place ribbons in their fences classes by winning at open fences. Freshman Amanda Horn (Huntington, N.Y./Walt Whitman) placed first for intermediate fences, while senior Diana Cabral (West Bridgewater, Mass./West Bridgewater) and sophomore Martina Tramontozzi (Melrose, Mass./Melrose) both won their novice fences class.

Senior Kate Perez (Southampton, Mass./Hampshire Regional) and junior Rebecca Rossi (Cranston, R.I./Bay View Academy) both earned first place ribbons in novice flat for Stonehill. Freshman Miranda Williams (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) was first in her class for intermediate flat.

Stonehill off for nearly two weeks before returning to action at the Brandeis University home show, hosted by August Farm in Holliston, Mass., on Saturday, March 26, at 9 a.m.
