Stonehill Competes at Tournament of Champions Winter Classic

Lorusso leads Skyhawk riders with second place finish in open flat

CHATHAM, Va. (February 4, 2011) – The Stonehill College equestrian team returned to action over the weekend when it participated in the Tournament of Champions Winter Classic, hosted by the Chatham Hall School, and turned in a 17th place team finish.

Virginia Intermont College captured the event title with 36 points to lead the 22 team field. Stonehill compiled ten points at the event.

Sophomore Cassandra Lorusso (Wrentham, Mass./Dana Hall School) led the way for Stonehill with a second place finish for open equitation on the flat. Senior co-captain Kayla Schneider (Vernon, Conn./Rockville) was fourth for open equitation over fences.

Senior co-captain Kate Perez (Southampton, Mass./Hampshire Regional) placed fifth in novice equitation on the flat, while sophomore Suzanne Adler (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) took sixth in novice walk-trot equitation. Senior Alisha Wielgoszinski (Amherst, N.H./Brewster Academy) rounded out the Skyhawks to earn ribbons by placing seventh in novice walk-trot-canter.
