Stonehill Takes First Place at Wellesley Home Show

Traendly and Monroe join Skyhawks list of regional qualifiers

MEDWAY, Mass. (March 6, 2010) - Stonehill College opened its spring season with a first place finish out of 13 teams at the Wellesley College home show at Rising Star Equestrian Center today. The Skyhawks compiled 41 points at the event to finish ahead of second-place Endicott College with 37 points, while Tufts University rounded out the top three with 32 points.

Seniors Quinn Traendly (Hope Valley, R.I./Chariho Regional) and Kelli-Ann Monroe (Swanzey, N.H./Monadnock Regional) led the way for Stonehill and in the process qualified for the regional championships scheduled for next month. Traendly placed first for open flat and third in open fences, regionally qualifying for the flat. Monroe was first for novice fences to qualify in that event after also qualifying earlier in the year at novice flat.

Sophomore Rebecca Rossi (Cranston, R.I./Bay View Academy) also had a strong day for the Skyhawks with a first place finish in novice fences, while also placing third in novice flat.

Other highlights for Stonehill today included:

Freshman Alexandra Fenner (Rye, N.H./Portsmouth) made her collegiate debut and won in walk-trot-canter.

Freshman Casey Lorusso (Wrentham, Mass./Dana Hall School) placed first in open flat.

Sophomore Nina Crossley (Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J./Northern Highlands Regional) was first in walk-trot-canter.

Freshman Martina Tramontozzi (Melrose, Mass./Melrose) was first for novice flat.

Freshman Kerry McCarthy (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Warde) placed second for her walk-trot-canter class.

Senior Stephanie Perry (Wareham, Mass./Sacred Heart) placed third in her intermediate fences class.

Stonehill is back in action next Sunday for the UMass Dartmouth/Wheaton College Home Show at Hobby Horse Farm in Rehoboth, Mass.
