Stonehill Wins Fourth-Straight, Qualifies for Zones

Skyhawks capture spring home show, locks up Zone 1 championship appearance

STOUGHTON, Mass. (March 27, 2010) – Stonehill College ran its winning streak to four weeks by posting a first place team finish at its home show at Dry Water Farm today. The Skyhawks won with a total score of 45 points to lead the 12-team field. Boston University took second with 32 points, while Tufts University rounded out the top three with 30 points.

With the win, Stonehill has now accumulated enough points to qualify for the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Zone 1 Championships, hosted by Mount Holyoke College, on April 10. The Skyhawks will be right back in action tomorrow for the Zone 1, Region 4, Championship at Springtide Farm in Boxford, Mass.

Senior Quinn Traendly (Hope Valley, R.I./Chariho Regional) led Stonehill to the team win in her final home show, posting a first place finish in open fences, while placing second in open flat. Junior Kayla Schneider (Vernon, Conn./Rockville) was first for open flat and third for intermediate fences.

Senior Stephanie Perry (Wareham, Mass./Sacred Heart) qualified for regionals in her final home show with her second place finish for intermediate fences. Classmate Kelsey Hill (Dover-Foxcroft, Maine/Foxcroft Academy) qualified for regionals for intermediate flat with her second place finish in her final home event. Junior Michelle Alton (Edgartown, Mass./Martha’s Vineyard Regional) placed third in walk-trot-canter and rounded out Stonehill’s newest group of regional qualifiers.

Junior Nina Crossley (Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J./Northern Highlands Regional) was first for advanced walk-trot-canter to help highlight the win.

Other highlights for Stonehill today included:

Freshman Cassandra Lorusso (Wrentham, Mass./Dana School) placed first for open fences.

Freshman Alexandra Fenner (Rye, N.H./Portsmouth) placed first in walk-trot-canter.

Freshman Martina Tramontozzi (Melrose, Mass./Melrose) was first for novice flat.

Sophomore Rebecca Rossi (Cranston, R.I./Bay View Academy) was second for novice fences.

Sophomore Margeaux DeVirgilio (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes) was second for novice fences.
