Stonehill Qualifies Six for IHSA Zone 1 Championships
Hill leads Skyhawks qualifiers by earning spots in intermediate flat and novice fences
BOXFORD, Mass. (March 28, 2010) – One day after qualifying as a team for the fourth-straight year for the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Zone 1 Championships in two weeks, six individuals qualified today at the IHSA Zone 1, Region 4 Championships, hosted by Endicott College at Springtide Farm.
Senior Kelsey Hill (Dover-Foxcroft, Maine/Foxcroft Academy) led the way for Stonehill by qualifying in two events. She qualified first for novice fences with a first place finish, before placing second in intermediate fences to qualify for that event.
Senior Quinn Traendly (Hope Valley, R.I./Chariho Regional) won open fences to qualify, while junior Nina Crossley (Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J./Northern Highlands Regional) rounded out the first place finishers for the Skyhawks by qualifying in walk-trot-canter.
Three others turned in second-place finishes to also qualify for the Zone 1 Championships in two weeks. Sophomore Christine Dwyer (Louisville, Ky./Kentucky Country Day) qualified with a second-place finish in novice flat, while classmate Rebecca Rossi (Cranston, R.I./Bay View Academy) earned a spot in zones with a second place finish in novice fences. Junior Kate Perez (Southampton, Mass./Hampshire Regional) rounded out the Skyhawks qualifiers with a second place finish in walk-trot-canter.
Stonehill is off until the Zone 1 Championships, hosted by Mount Holyoke College in Hadley, Mass., on Saturday, April 10.
