Riders Show Well On Opening Weekend

Stonehill opened their 2008-09 season with first and third-place finishes in a pair of shows over the weekend. The Skyhawks took first in a show hosted by Boston University on Saturday, racking up 40 points in the process behind a slew of stellar performances. Following the weekend of activity, the Skyhawks lead the region by four points.

Quinn Traendly was victorious in the open flat class, while senior captain Rebecca Clifford placed second in the intermediate fences class.

A pair of freshmen, Jacquie Maggorie and Christine Dwyer each made their collegiate debuts, and Maggorie took third in the intermediate fences, while Dwyer claimed her first novice flat class win.

Veterans Callie Ryan and Michelle Pare pointed out of their divisions and qualified for regionals with their perfomances.

On Sunday at the UMass-Dartmouth show, the Skyhawks got first place performances from freshman Nina Crossley (walk-trot) and Kelsey Hill (novice fences) to help Stonehill to a third-place finish.

Hill's showing qualified her for regionals in the novice flat division. In addition, Kayla Schneider placed second in her intermediate flat class. Naomi Crilley made her debut in the walk trot canter division placing second on Saturday and then turned in a third place finish on Sunday.

Other weekend highlights include:
Rachel Foster placed second in her novice fences class.
Chantel LeClair placed second in both novice fences and flat.
Brianna Toujian placed second in novice fences and won her novice flat class.
Kate Perez placed first in her walk trot canter division.
Jenna Boyd placed first in her walk trot canter division.
Michelle Alton placed third in her walk trot canter class.

Stonehill will be back in action on Sunday, November 2 nd in a show hosted by Endicott College.
