Stonehill's Traendly Rides on to Nationals
South Hadley, Mass. - The Stonehill College Equestrian team took part in Zones competition at Mount Holyoke College this weekend, one week after claiming their second consecutive Regional Championships with a third place finish at their home show.
Quinn Traendly (Hope Valley, R.I./Chariho Regional) earned second place honors for individual open fences. In the process Traendly, a sophomore, qualified for National competition and third for team open fences.
Junior Rebecca Clifford (Rehoboth, Mass./Dighton-Rehoboth) finished second for intermediate team fences behind teammate sophomore Rachel Foster (Townsend Mass./North Middlesex Regional), who took first for the Skyhawks.
In novice team fences, Kayla Scheider (Vernon, Conn./Rockville) provided another team high point for the Skyhawks; taking the event's top spot. Later, Kellie Monroe (Swanzey, N.H./Cold Spring Harbor) finished fourth for Team Novice Flat. Freshman Hilary Hamlyn (Brewster, Mass./ Foxcroft Academy) took third for team Walk Trot Canter.
Callie Ryan (Newton, Conn./Rockville) claimed
third for team Walk-Trot, while junior Jamie
Marsalise (Laurel Hollow, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) was
third for team Open-Flat.
Of only eight riders to qualify overall, junior Jenna Boyd
(Middleton, Mass./Masconomet) registered an impressive
fifth place finish for individual Walk-Trot.
The Skyhawks, who finished the show in a three-way tie, fell to Brown University in a tie-breaker decision. Although the young women's team will not be traveling to Nationals this May, they will be represented by Quinn Traendly, a sophomore, who will compete for a National Title in Open fences division. The event will be held on May 5th.
