Equestrian Claims Regional Title at Home Show

Stoughton, Mass. - The Stonehill College Equestrian team finished third at their home show held this weekend at the Dry Water Farm.  A number of riders finished well for the College, who claimed the 2008 Zone 1, Region 4 title and the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHRA) Miller's Cup as the High Point team.

Sophomore Devon Poeta (Old Lyme, Conn./Lyme-Old Lyme) provided the first high spot for the Skyhawks - finishing second in Open Fences and first in Open Flat.  Classmate Stephanie Perry (West Wareham, Mass./Sacred Heart) finished second as well in the Intermediate Fences.

Senior Stephanie Fagan (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) earned second in intermediate flat, while sophomore Kelsey Hill (Dover-Foxcroft, Maine/Foxcroft Academy) took second place honors in Noice Fences.

Jenna Boyd (Middleton, Mass./Masconomet) earned first place honors in Walk-Trot-Canter.  Callie Ryan (Newtown, Conn./Newtown), a freshman, finished second in Walk-Trot.

A number of riders qualified for Zones.  Quinn Traendly (Hope Valley, R.I./Chariho Regional) earned a spot for Open Fences and Open Flat, after winning both classes on Sunday.  Boyd's second place finish in Walk-Trot qualified her for Zones also.

The women, who owned the highest point total throughout the season, were named Regional championships as a result of their third place finish.  The Stonehill Equestrian team is headed to Zone competition at Mt. Holyoke next weekend.  The event is scheduled for April 5th.
