NORTH SMITHFIELD, R.I.-- The Stonehill equestrian team officially began competition for the 2005-2006 season on Saturday afternoon by earning reserve champion honors (second place) at the Wheaton Intercollegiate Horse Show, as the Skyhawks posted 37 points in the team competition to finish just behind high point champion (first place) Boston University’s team score of 38 points.

Sophomore Megan Buono (Bayonne, N.J.) led the way for Stonehill in her first collegiate competition by placing first in the novice fences and second in the novice flat, while senior Shannon Tibbits (West Kingston, R.I.) and freshman Sarah Grzymala (Clifton Park, N.Y.) added first place performances in the intermediate fences and walk trot, respectively. Freshman Jamie Marsalise (Laurel Hollow, N.Y.) was first in the open flat and third in the open fences for the Skyhawks, while junior Sara Zelazny (San Diego, Calif.) was first in the walk trot and pointed out into the walk trot canter.

Senior Kalyn Healey (Plympton, Mass.), juniors Anna Huggins (Uxbridge, Mass.) and Brooke Clifford (Rehoboth, Mass.), along with freshman Brianna Touzjian (Hopkinton, Mass.) added second place performances in the open fences, intermediate fences and advanced walk trot canter, respectively, for Stonehill in the competition.

Stonehill returns to action on Sunday morning when the Skyhawks travel to Holliston, Mass. to participate in the Tufts Intercollegiate Horse Show that begins at 9:00 a.m.
