Vopat Earns Reserve High Point Rider Honors As Equestrian Widens Lead In IHSA Regional Standings By Placing As Reserve Champion At Wellesley Horse Show

MEDWAY, Mass.-- The Stonehill equestrian team extended its lead in the IHSA Zone 1, Region 4 standings on Sunday afternoon by taking reserve champion (second place) honors at the Wellesley Horse Show at the Rising Star Equestrian Center, as the Chieftains posted a team score of 31 points to trail only high point champion (first place) Endicott’s total of 41 points.

Senior Samantha Vopat (Plympton, Mass.) earned reserve high point rider honors on the day in a ride-off, as she placed first in the open fences and second in the open flat. Junior Kalyn Healey (Plympton, Mass.) and sophomore Lynne Adams (Averill Park, N.Y.) added first place finishes in the open fences and walk trot canter, respectively, for Stonehill, which also received a pair of second place finishes in the intermediate fences and intermediate flat from freshman Stephanie Fagan (Marshfield, Mass.). Senior Megan Pelis (Fitchburg, Mass.) was second in the novice flat and third in the novice fences for the Chieftains, who also received second place finishes in the novice fences from freshman Kristina Grossmann (Dix Hills, N.Y.) and in the intermediate flat from senior Katrina Wilkin (Romney, N.H.). Senior Kelsey Amedeo (Springfield, Mass.) posted a third place finish in the open flat as well for Stonehill, which retains a substantial lead in the IHSA region standings heading into the final two regular season shows.

Stonehill returns to action next Saturday morning by heading to the Volo Farm in Westford, Mass. to participate in the Boston College Horse Show beginning at 9:00 a.m.
