Amedeo, Foley Advance To Represent Equestrian At IHSA National Championships As Chieftains Place Third At Zone Competition

GREENFIELD, Mass.-- The Stonehill equestrian team finished third during competition at the 2005 IHSA Zone 1 Championships on Saturday afternoon at the Stoneleigh-Burnham Farm, as the Chieftains did not advance to the 2005 IHSA national championships in the team category after being bested by both Mount Holyoke and UConn in the zone competition, as both of those schools advance to next month’s championships in Sunbury, Ohio.

Two individuals will represent Stonehill at the upcoming IHSA Nationals, as senior Kelsey Amedeo (Springfield, Mass.) was reserve champion in the open flat and will also compete in the Cacchione Cup, as she is the two-time champion in Zone 1, Region 4 competition. Junior Kim Foley (Warwick, R.I.) will also join Amedeo at the national championships after finishing as the reserve champion in the walk trot on Saturday.

Freshman Kristina Grossmann (Dix Hills, N.Y.) earned the championship in the collegiate novice fences during Zone 1 competition on Saturday, while Foley and senior Samantha Vopat (Plympton, Mass.) earned reserve champion honors in the collegiate walk trot canter and open fences, respectively. Amedeo was third in the collegiate open flat, while senior Dyanna Rucco (Rehoboth, Mass.), junior Shannon Tibbits (West Kingston, R.I.) and sophomores Heather Marban (Ridgefield, Conn.) and Sara Zelazny (San Diego, Calif.) each posted third place finishes for Stonehill in the open fences, intermediate flat, novice fences and walk trot, respectively.

Amedeo and Foley will represent Stonehill at the IHSA nationals beginning on Thursday, May 6th at the Eden Park Equestrian Center in Sunbury, Ohio.
