NE10 Announces Hall of Fame 2019
EASTON, Mass. (June 6, 2019) – Former Stonehill College baseball All-American Junior Medina, '02 has been recognized with induction to the Northeast-10 Conference Hall of Fame as a member of its 2019 class during the Conference's end of the year meetings in Springfield, Massachusetts, this week. Medina will be formally honored in a ceremony on the Stonehill campus at a later date to be announced.
Medina, a member of the Stonehill Athletic Hall of Fame's Class of 2008, is just the sixth baseball student-athlete named to the NE10 Hall of Fame – the first from Stonehill. He is the 13th student-athlete, coach/administrator or team, from Stonehill to be inducted to the NE10 Hall of Fame. A complete list of the College's NE10 Hall of Famers is listed below.
Medina, the 1999 NE10 Rookie of the Year, is the first All-American in the history of the Stonehill baseball program and one of just two overall to this day, earning first team honors as an outfielder his senior year. The 2002 NE10 Player of the Year is a four-time All-Conference honoree, earning first team honors three times. He was named the Northeast Region Player of the Year by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and is a three-time New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) Division II All-Star and All-Star Game participant. Medina capped his Stonehill career by being invited to and participating in the College Baseball Home Run Derby at the 2002 Division I College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska.
Medina played 195 games over his Stonehill career, recording a school-record 282 career hits – which stood as a New England Division II record upon his graduation. He also holds program records with 48 career home runs, 220 runs scored and finished with an NE10 record 500 career total bases, which ranks 21st in NCAA Division II history. He also ranks second all-time at Stonehill with 203 career RBI and 58 doubles, while his .383 career batting average ranks sixth.
Medina belted a school-record 19 home runs as a senior, which led the NE10 and ranked second nationally in 2002, and holds three of the top ten home run seasons in Stonehill history. He helped lead Stonehill to a pair of NE10 regular season championships, as well as the 2000 NE10 Tournament title, which led to the program's first NCAA Division II Tournament bid. Stonehill posted a 34-20 record overall in 2000, including a 19-5 mark in the NE10, reaching the NCAA Northeast Regional championship round. Stonehill was also NE10 Tournament finalists his senior year.
With 21 intercollegiate sports, Stonehill boasts one of the top athletic and academic programs in the country. Stonehill has won the Northeast-10 Conference Presidents' Cup five times, all coming within the last 14 years. The Skyhawks have received the NCAA Division II Presidents' Award for Academic Achievement each of the first eighth years of the program's existence of honoring institutions with an Academic Success Rate (ASR) of 90-percent or better. Stonehill has earned a 96% Academic Success Ranking (ASR) by the NCAA, which considers the academic success rate of the institution based on the graduation rate of student-athletes, good for seventh among all NCAA Division II institutions, with eight Skyhawk teams receiving a perfect rating of 100%. In addition, the Skyhawks are ranked 11th in the National Collegiate Scouting Association (NCSA) Power Rankings for Division II used to assess the academic and athletic standards of all NCAA and NAIA athletic programs.
