EASTON, Massachusetts (April 10, 2019) – The Stonehill College baseball team picked up its second win against Northeast-10 Conference foe Assumption College on Wednesday afternoon with a 7-5 victory on Lou Gorman Field.
The Skyhawks are now 15-17 overall and 6-6 in NE10 Conference play, while the Greyhounds fall to17-12 overall and 5-6 in Conference play.
With one out in the top of the first, Derek Adamson singled to center field with runners on first and second driving home Jake Hamel for a 1-0 lead in favor of the Greyhounds. The Skyhawks' Michael Young got out of the jam with a double play to end the inning. Stonehill's freshman Aidan Wilde answered back with a two-out RBI double, his sixth of the season scoring Harrison Sabo who singled to left field tying the game at one, 1-1.
After a scoreless second inning, Stonehill capitalized on one hit and three errors in the bottom of the third to pick up their first lead of the game, 5-1. Young retired four-straight batters through the top of the fourth, and the Skyhawks put another run on the board in the bottom of the frame as Wilde tallied his second hit of the day with two outs bringing home Matthew Rocco, for a five-run advantage, 6-1.
Assumption cut the deficit to four, 6-2, as Alex Richardson scored on a wild pitch in the top of the fifth as he walked during his time at the plate with one out. The Skyhawks wasted no time with Matt Donlan connecting for his fourth double of the season to bring home Shane O'Halloran from third to get the run back for a five-run lead again, 7-2.

The Greyhounds threatened in the eighth and ninth innings as they saw Jared Brescia lead off the eighth with a single to right field. He stole second during R.J. Libby's at bat, and Libby roped the ball to right field for a one-out RBI cutting the deficit to four again, 7-3. Stonehill got out of the inning as Young struck out his fourth batter and Donlan threw out his 18th runner of the season, leading the Conference.
In the top of the ninth with one out, Assumption saw Matt Schneider reach first on a passed ball and soon the bases were loaded after back-to-back hits. Richardson followed up with a sacrifice fly to left field scoring the first run of the inning, 7-4. Brescia then walked to load the bases for a second time in the inning and Hamel also walked to bring home the second run cutting the deficit to two, 7-5. Richard Ryan came into the game in relief for Young as Ryan got Libby to ground out for the final out and his first-career save.
Stonehill continues its nine-game home stand with a doubleheader against No. 4 Southern New Hampshire University on Saturday, April 13 with a first pitch at noon followed by a single game against the Penmen on Sunday, April 14 with a first pitch at 1:00 p.m. as the Skyhawks honor their seniors prior to the contest.
