The Warriors total 29 hits to the Skyhawks' six in the two games

BRIGHTON, Massachusetts (March 30, 2019) – The Stonehill College baseball team (12-13, 3-2 NE10) fell to Merrimack College (11-10, 5-2 NE10) with scores of 6-0 in both games of the doubleheader today at Harrington Athletics Village.

Game 1: Stonehill 0 – Merrimack 6

Sophomore Connor Williams held off Merrimack to a 2-0 advantage through the bottom of the fifth inning, as the Warriors saw a sacrifice fly from Michael Jamele to bring home Kurtis Kadnicki in the bottom of the fourth and a single from Joyce that scored Nick Shumski in the bottom of the fifth.

Merrimack added two to the board in the bottom of the sixth, extended their lead to four, 4-0. In the top of the frame, Stonehill was retired three-straight for the first of four times throughout the game, as the Warriors took advantage of one out and runners on first and third for another sacrifice fly driving in Matthew Ronai and another single from Joyce for Shumski's second time crossing home.

The Skyhawks got out of a bases loaded situation in the bottom of the seventh, as Justin Lynch retired the side with a fielder's choice play at the plate and his lone strikeout of the game. Merrimack was able to score two more in the bottom of the eighth inning, extended its lead to six, 6-0, on another sacrifice fly and a hit batter. Stonehill got William Kelleher to reach base on a walk with two outs in the top of the ninth, but the side was retired on a fielder's choice.

Game 2: Stonehill 0 – Merrimack 6

Merrimack continued their offensive attack through the second game, as Joyce's single up the middle scored two runs for an early 2-0 lead. The Warriors followed that with a run in each of the fourth and fifth innings off a ground out and a single to center field extending their lead to four, 4-0.

Merrimack held Stonehill to no hits through the third inning, until Aidan Wilde recorded the first hit for the Skyhawks in the top of the fourth. The side was quickly retired with a fly out to left field.

The Warriors saw two more one-run innings to put the score at six for the second time of the day, 6-0. Crowley flew out to center field driving in Ronai in the bottom of the seventh and Ronai had an infield single scoring Shumski from third after a triple of his own in the bottom of the eighth.

Stonehill aims to fight back against Merrimack College for the final game of the three-game series tomorrow, Sunday, March 31 with first pitch slated for 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Prep in Danvers, Massachusetts.
