Baseball Outlasts AIC, 11-10, with Sabo’s 3-Run Homerun

BOCA RATON, Florida (March 10, 2019) – The Stonehill College baseball team, who is ranked No. 7 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division II East Region Poll fought back for an 11-10 victory over Northeast-10 Conference foe American International College to cap their spring break trip Sunday afternoon at Lynn University.

Stonehill (8-8) capped their spring break trip at .500 as they fought back over American International after being down five, 8-3, through the fifth inning. Three Skyhawks recorded multiple hit games including Harrison Sabo who went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI including the game-winning three-run homerun in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Aidan Wilde went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, two RBI, and his own two-run homerun in the bottom of the first, while Rob Duarte followed the freshman with his own solo shot swinging 2-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI.

Senior Patrick Downey recorded the third homerun of the game for the Skyhawks, as he launched his first long ball of the season, bringing home Duarte and Jeremiah Vargas in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game at eight, 8-8.


White tossed 3.2 innings, allowing only two runs and striking out three for his fourth-career win

American International College (3-2) saw four with multi-hit games including Anthony Clark who went 2-for-3 with one run scored and a double and Cam Defeo who swung 2-for-5 with three runs scored, two RBI, and a double. Matthew Elliot went 3-for-5 with one run scored and two RBI, as Josh Aviles went 2-for-3 with one run scored and one RBI.

Junior Michael White saw his fifth appearance on the mound this season, effectively throwing for 3.2 innings, which including three of the five innings that the Yellow Jackets were scoreless earning his first win of the season and fourth-career victory.

After being down five, 8-3, and heading into the sixth inning the Skyhawks took a different approach at the plate and was able to spread eight runs over three innings to take an 11-10 advantage, Stonehill's first lead of the game. The Yellow Jackets did score two in the top of the eighth for a two-run lead, 10-8, prior to Stonehill's three-run eighth inning, but White held the Yellow Jackets to two hits in the top of the ninth to hold on for the victory.

Stonehill is scheduled to travel to Pleasantville, New York on Saturday, March 16 and Sunday, March 17 for four games on Peter X. Finnerty Field with a first pitch scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
