Farragher tallied two triples and his third-straight game with a hit

Sabo tallied two RBI in the doubleheader and added to his nine-game hit streak

PALM BEACH, Florida (March 9, 2019) – The Stonehill College baseball team, who is ranked No. 7 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division II East Region Poll fell to Caldwell University twice in its final doubleheader of spring break with scores of 8-5 and 6-5 in eight innings at the Santaluces Complex.

Game 1: Stonehill 5 – Caldwell 8

Both teams were scoreless in the first inning, as the Cougars notched one run off of two hits in the top of the second inning to take the lead, 1-0. Stonehill responded with two runs in the bottom of the frame to take over the lead, 2-1. Matt Farragher tripled to right field with two outs and Ryan Hodgkins and Rob Duarte on base, for his third triple of the season.

Caldwell took its second lead of the game with four runs off of four hits in the top of the fifth inning to take over a 5-2 lead. Stonehill saw Jeremiah Vargas in the bottom of the frame single to right field with two outs to cut the deficit to two, 5-3, driving in Harrison Sabo after he doubled to right field.

In the bottom of the sixth, Farragher quickly advanced to third after being hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, as John Orzechowski reached first on a bunt and stole second to put runners on second and third. Sabo singled to center field with two outs, easily scoring Orzechowski and Farragher to tie the game at five, 5-5.

Caldwell was successful in the seventh inning as they put together three hits to score three runs to extend its lead back to three, 8-5. The Skyhawks were fended off after a fly out and a double play in the bottom of the seventh to give the Cougars their first win of the season.

Game 2: Stonehill 5 – Caldwell 6 (8 innings)

Stonehill kicked off game two with the first run of the game and Sabo's second RBI of the day, driving home Orzechowski from third, 1-0. Caldwell didn't let up from the previous game as four runs came across off of five hits to put the Cougars up by three, 4-1.

Duarte saw his first-career triple, swinging 1-for-4 in the second game with one run scored and one RBI

Caldwell tallied two hits in the next three innings, as Stonehill recorded none but neither team put a run on the board. In the fifth inning, Farragher saw his second triple of the day, this time driving in PJ McDonald from first base after he walked to lead off the inning, 4-2. Caldwell responded with its own run as Kenneth Matta dropped a sacrifice bunt and was throw out, but Alejandro Mejia scored from third to put the Cougars back up by three, 5-2.

Stonehill's big offensive inning came in the top of the sixth tying the game with five apiece, 5-5, as Duarte, William Kelleher and Thomas Quinn notched RBI.

With one out in the bottom of the eighth, Kyle Richards came in to bat and launched a solo homerun to left field for a walk off win and the Cougars second-straight win of the season, 6-5.

The Skyhawks will face Northeast-10 Conference foe American International College tomorrow, Sunday, March 10 in a non-conference battle for its final game of spring break with a first pitch slated for 11:00 a.m.
