Marshall earned his first win striking out a season high six batters

BOCA RATON, Florida (March 6, 2019) – The Stonehill College baseball team, who is ranked No. 7 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division II East Region Poll secured its second win over Bloomfield College, 9-7, on Thursday at Lynn University.

For Stonehill (7-5), three Skyhawks tallied more than one hit, including Harrison Sabo and William Kelleher each totaling three and Matt Donlan with two. Freshman Luke Marshall threw 3.2 innings on the mound striking out six for his first win of the season, while Michael White recorded his first save of the season.

Bloomfield (0-6) saw Elvis Lopez, Kevin Rodriguez, Darwin Tavarez, and Elmy Antonio register two hits each, while six Bears tallied a RBI each.

Stonehill tallied two hits to Bloomfield's one in the first and second innings, as the Skyhawks got the top of their order at the top of the third putting three across home, 3-0, from a three-run double by Sabo, for his fourth of the season and 20th of his career.

The Bears cut the lead to one, 3-2, with a one out single from Tavarez scoring Kevin Rodriguez from second and a sacrifice fly from Javell Barnes to bring home Tavarez from third. Bloomfield tied the score in the bottom of the fifth, 3-3, as Antonio scored from home on a throwing error.

Stonehill scored a run in the top of the sixth and two in the seventh to take the lead back, 6-3. In the sixth, Matthew Rocco reached on an error scoring Kelleher from third base, 4-3, Jeremiah Vargas send a long fly ball to right field for a sacrifice fly to bring home Sabo, 5-3, and then still with one out Kelleher singled to right field to bring home Aidan Wilde, 6-3.


Sabo went 1-for-4 and is on a six-game hit streak

The Skyhawks added three more runs to the score in the top of the ninth, 9-3, as Kelleher singled with runners on first and second bringing in Wilde for his second run of the game, 5-3. After a fielder's choice to put runners on first and third, Dolan launched his third double of the season to right field and brought in Rob Duarte, followed by Lucier who crossed home plate on the throwing error, 9-3.  

Bloomfield put pressure on Stonehill in the bottom of the frame, as they were able to drive in four runs on four hits and one error to cut the deficit to two, 9-7. White came in for relief with runners on second and third and two outs, retiring the side with a groundout to pick up his first-career save.

The Skyhawks aim to split with Queens (N.Y.) College this week after falling 11-10 in 10 innings on Wednesday, as they battle them tomorrow, Friday, March 8 with a first pitch slated for 2:30 p.m. at the Santaluces Complex in Palm Beach, Fla.
