EASTON, Mass. (May 9, 2018) – Stonehill College freshman Jared Brooks (Scarborough, Maine/Cheverus) are among 20 baseball student-athletes selected to the Northeast-10 Conference's All-Rookie Team by the league's 15 head coaches, the Conference announced today.

Brooks wrapped up his freshman season with a team-high 65.1 innings pitched, allowing 58 hits and 29 runs with 23 earned runs. The All-Rookie team selection struck out 51 batters in his 12 appearances and 10 game starts. He was only one of two pitchers on the Skyhawks' staff to end the season with a winning record, as he combined for a 3.17 ERA in a 5-3 overall record on the mound.

The Scarborough, Maine native finished the year ranked in multiple categories in the NE10 including, 10th in innings pitched (65.1), 12th in wins (5), 18th in ERA (3.17), 19th in strikeouts (51), 30th strikeouts per nine innings (7.03). The freshman was named the NE10 Rookie of the Week in March as he threw in the Skyhawks' third game in Florida battling Bloomfield College. He threw 7.1 innings, allowed eight hits and struck out four batters, earning his second win of the season in a 7-6 victory. Brooks also threw 8.0 innings in the final game of the week against Caldwell University allowing only one hit and striking out seven, as the Skyhawks were able to walk off with a double in the bottom of the ninth to win 4-3.


Brooks threw in all three Skyhawk shutout victories this season

During Conference play, Brooks earned a win against Bentley University, as he tossed 5.2 innings giving up five hits and one run for a 2-1 victory. He later was part of Stonehill's second shutout victory of the season against Saint Michael's College, 6-0, in early April giving up only one hit and striking out a season-high nine batters. He was the starting pitcher in Stonehill's third shutout with a 1-0 victory as he pitched 8.1 innings allowing seven hits.

A 2017 graduate of Cheverus High School, Brooks was named Rookie of the Year his sophomore year and was named to the underclass All-Star Team his sophomore and junior years. He was also tabbed on the Southwestern Maine Activities Association All-Conference second team his junior year, while he was selected for on the SMAA All-Conference first team senior year, MVP of Cheverus High School, SMAA MVP, USA Today All-USA Maine first team, All-State first team, and Cheverus Spring Athlete of the Year.

The Skyhawks finished fifth in the Northeast Division, just shy of making playoffs for the second-straight season, with a 17-21-1 overall record and a 10-15-1 mark in the NE10.
