Quinn matched a career-best three RBI for the second time this season

Nunez recorded his first two doubles of the season for his ninth and 10th doubles of his career

HOOKSETT, N.H. (April 13, 2018) – The Stonehill College baseball team and Southern New Hampshire University each tallied 12 hits in a Northeast-10 Conference battle, but the Penmen came up on top, 13-4, in a single game on Friday afternoon.  

For the Skyhawks, Thomas Quinn (Wilbraham, Massachusetts/Wilbraham Monson) led the team as he went 2-for-4 with three RBI, while John Orzechowski (Monroe, Connecticut/Masuk) went 2-for-4 at the plate with one RBI. Harrison Sabo (Wilton, Connecticut/Wilton) connected for his seventh double of the season while batting 2-for-5. Isiah Nunez (Brooklyn, New York/Berkshire School) tallied two doubles and swinging 3-for-4 at the plate with one run scored.

The Penmen broke open the game with seven runs in the bottom of the second inning, 7-0, off two hits and two errors, while the Skyhawks saw one hit in each of the first two innings and stranded two on base.

In the top of the fourth inning and one out, William Kelleher (Mansfield, Massachusetts/Mansfield) singled to right center. Nunez followed with his own single and Quinn drove home Kelleher from second with a base hit to center field, cutting the deficit to six, 7-1.

Southern N.H. extended its lead to nine, 10-1, in the bottom of the fifth, continuing to drive the ball to the outfield as three hits, including two singles, a double and two walks was the offensive drive for the bottom half of the frame.

Orzechowski stole his eighth base of the season, 23rd career

Stonehill was able to get another run across in the top of the sixth with Quinn's single to right center, advancing Rob Duarte (Raynham, Massachusetts/Bridgewater-Raynham) across home plate, 10-2. The Penmen quickly gained that run back in the bottom of the inning after a lead off walk turned into a run as Tom Blandini lined out to right field and Caleb Potter tagged on the play from third. Two more runs crossed home in the bottom of the seventh, 13-2, but the Skyhawks stopped the Penmen from scoring as three were left on base after a fielder's choice.

The Skyhawks saw its best inning of the game in the top of the eighth, as Duarte singled to the shortstop and Nunez moved him to third on a double down the left field line. Quinn grounded out to the pitcher, but Duarte sprinted home for a nine-run game, 13-3. After the second out, Orzechowski hit a hard grounder to third base and Nunez had enough time to get home to cut the deficit to nine, 13-4.

Stonehill had a runner on base in each of the nine innings, but the Penmen's pitching staff combined for 13 strikeouts and allowed 12 hits for four earned runs, while the Skyhawk's pitching staff struck out five, allowed 12 hits and seven earned runs in the loss.

Stonehill (11-14, 4-8 NE10) faces the Penmen tomorrow, Saturday, April 14 for a NE10 divisional doubleheader at Penmen Field with a start time of 10:00 a.m.
