EASTON, Mass. (March 12, 2018) – Stonehill College freshman pitcher Jared Brooks (Scarborough, Maine/Cheverus) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference's Rookie of the Week for baseball by the league's office on Monday.

Brooks earns NE10 Rookie of the Week honors for the first time as a Skyhawk after going 1-0 this past week during Stonehill's eight-game stretch in Boca Raton, Florida.

The freshman pitched in the Skyhawks' third game in Florida as the team battled Bloomfield College on Tuesday. Brooks threw for 7.1 innings, allowed eight hits and struck out four earning his second win of the season with a 7-6 victory over the Bears. After Bloomfield took an early 3-0 lead, the Skyhawks scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a one-run lead and keep it, 4-3. They then scored three more runs in the bottom of the seventh, 7-3, before the Bears tallied one in the eighth and two in the ninth, 7-6. Stonehill's Joe Klingensmith (Topsfield, Massachusetts/Masconomet) came in relief for the Skyhawks earning his fourth save of the season.

Brooks threw 8.0 innings in the final game of the week against Caldwell University on Sunday allowing only one hit and striking out seven, as the Skyhawks were able to walk off with a double in the bottom of the ninth to win 4-3. Stonehill held a 1-0 lead after the bottom of the first, but Caldwell was able to respond, 1-1. The game then tied two more times, before Tyler Carey (Raynham, Massachusetts/Bridgewater-Raynham) was able to connect for the game-winning double to score Matthew Rocco (Newington, Connecticut/Newington) from third.

The starter previously pitched against the University of Bridgeport when Stonehill traveled in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and threw 6.1 innings earning his first victory of the season. The Skyhawks won 5-2, as Brooks struck out four and allowed three hits and two earned runs.

The native of Scarborough, Maine is a 2017 graduate of Cheverus High School where he was named the Rookie of the Year his sophomore year and was named to the underclass All-Star Team his sophomore and junior years. He also was named to the Southwestern Maine Activities Association All-Conference second team his junior year, while he was tabbed on the SMAA All-Conference first team senior year, MVP of Cheverus High School, SMAA MVP, USA Today All-USA Maine first team, All-State first team, and Cheverus Spring Athlete of the Year.

Stonehill (7-6) takes a week off before hosting Merrimack College on Sunday, March 18 for two seven-innings games at Xaverian Brothers High School in Westwood, Massachusetts for non-league games.
