Boen welcomes two new coaches heading into 2018 season

EASTON, Mass. (January 16, 2018) – Stonehill College baseball head coach Pat Boen has announced two additions and one elevation to his coaching staff for the 2018 spring season.
Boen has put Lou Proietti behind him and making him Associate Head Coach for his third season at Stonehill. Proietti will be in charge of recruiting, practice organization, and game strategy. The native of Hamilton, Ontario is a 2007 graduate of the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where he also received his masters in 2009.
Boen also announces two additions to his staff, including Tom Farmer who will be the pitching coach for the Skyhawks and Sean Callahan will be an assistant coach.
"I am very excited to get this season rolling," stated Boen. "With two new additions in Tom and Sean, and having Lou be the Associate Head Coach, this season will see coaching with more and better technical expertise to give the student-athletes a great experience both on and off the field."
Tom Farmer, a native of Akron, Ohio, joins the Stonehill baseball staff in fall 2017 and is entering his first season as an assistant coach. Coach Farmer will bring his knowledge and experience as a pitching coach to the Skyhawk's roster.
Farmer was a four-year starter for the NCAA Division I Baseball program at University of Akron, where he earned both his Bachelors of Science in Business Administration, International Business in 2008, and his MBA with a concentration in Finance in 2009. Now, Farmer continues to play an active role with his alma mater as a member of the University of Akron Baseball Alumni, an organization which he co-founded and continues to organize and host events in support of the UA Baseball program.
During Farmer's tenure at the University of Akron he served as team captain from 2008-09 and participated in the Great Lakes League, Cape Cod League, and the NECBL. In 2006, Farmer was named Cape League All-Star as well as Bourne Braves Pitcher of the Year. Following his completion of college baseball, Farmer was selected by the Minnesota Twins in the 20th Round of the 2007 MLB Draft and in the 47th Round of 2008 MLB Draft.
Aside from his playing experience, Coach Farmer has held various coaching positions. Beginning as a camp counselor for the Sandwich Community School, which focused on helping young kids learn the game of baseball, Farmer then moved on to become the Berea High School Varsity Assistant Coach, Bridgewater Hitmen Coach, and Team Mizuno AAU pitching coach.
Previous to joining the Skyhawk's Baseball staff, Farmer served as Pitching Coach for NCAA Division III Massachusetts Maritime Academy, where he led the Buccaneers to their first conference regular season championship in school history in 2015, and their first tournament win and conference tournament runner up accolade in school history in 2016.
Famer is currently a Financial Advisor and College Unit Director for Northwestern Mutual, where he resides in Sagamore Beach, Massachusetts.
Sean Callahan is entering his first season with the Stonehill baseball staff as an assistant coach.
Coach Callahan formerly served as the hitting and catching coach for the UMass Boston baseball program. In his two years with the Beacons he led their offense to a Little East Conference regular season title along with their NCAA Division III New England regional birth in 2016. In 2017, Callahan played an instrumental role in guiding the team to a Little East Conference Championship as well as a NCAA Division III New England Regional Championship, earning a bid in the 2017 NCAA Division III College World Series.
In the summer of 2017, Callahan served as Assistant Coach for the Wareham Gatemen in the Cape Cod Baseball League, overseeing hitters, catchers, outfield and coaching first base.
Callahan is a 2011 graduate of Framingham State University, where he was a four-year member of the Rams baseball team. During his time with Framingham State, Callahan served as an assistant captain in 2010 and was then named team captain in 2011. In 2010, Callahan was named an All-MASCAC selection, while leading the Rams to an impressive 24-win season. Following his 2010 season, Callahan was selected by the North Shore Navigators of the NECBL.
Callahan currently works as a manager and instructor at AtBats Baseball and Softball Training facility in Acton, Massachusetts.
Stonehill kicks off its season in February with a trip down to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina to play in the Ripken Experience Northeast Challenge from Thursday, February 22- Sunday, February 25. The Skyhawks will face Mercy College on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. and follow that with a doubleheader versus Molloy College and LIU Post on Friday. The trip will conclude with a game on Saturday versus the University of Bridgeport and Queens College on Sunday.
