Monte earns second team All-NE10 honors, while Lee lands on third team and Paul on All-Rookie Team
NE10 Announces Baseball Honors
EASTON, Mass. (May 10, 2016) – Three members of the Stonehill College baseball team have earned All-Northeast-10 Conference honors as selected by the league's head coaches, the Conference announced on Wednesday.
Senior Ben Monte (New Haven, Connecticut/Guilford) headlines the Stonehill trio, as he was named to the second team for his first All-NE10 honor of his career. Classmate Steve Lee (Braintree, Massachusetts/Braintree) also received his first NE10 honor with a selection on the third team, while freshman Daniel Paul (Farmington, Connecticut/Avon Old Farms) rounded out the trio's first-career awards being tabbed on the All-Rookie Team.
Monte led the Skyhawks with a career-best year as he posted a .322 batting average. He led the team in triples (4), homeruns (6), doubles (11), walks (19), runs (31), hits (48). The New Haven, Connecticut native was also ranked in many categories in the NE10 including 2nd in triples, 3rd in homeruns, 8th in doubles 10th in stolen bases, 21st in hits, 22nd in batting average, 27th in walks.
Monte was also named to the NE10 Commissioner's Honor Roll for three semesters and the Athletic Director's Honor Roll for one. The senior wrapped up his four years as a Skyhawk with a .276 batting average, 126 hits, 26 doubles, 10 homeruns, 61 RBI, and 29 stolen bases.
Lee was ninth on the team this year with a .250 batting average, while he played third base and shortstop. The senior saw a career-best homeruns (4), triples (3), walks (13), RBI (22). The Braintree, Massachusetts native averaged a .246 batting average over his four years totaling 142 hits, 32 doubles, and 70 RBI.
Stonehill's shortstop totaled three game-winning hits this season, including a homerun for a 3-2 win over No. 7 Southern New Hampshire University. Lee also hit a game-winning single against Bentley, taking the first game of the series, 5-4. In the series decider against Assumption, the senior launched a double that hit off the base of the wall to bring home the game-winning run for a 2-1 win in 10 innings. Lee was tabbed on the NE10 Commissioner's Honor Roll for three semesters and the Athletic Director's Honor Roll for two semesters.
Paul led the team with a 2.51 ERA this season boasting a 3-0 record over seven games appeared in. The Farmington, Connecticut native totaled 28.2 innings pitched giving up 21 hits and eight earned runs. He also struck out 20 batters in his three game starts.
The freshman earned his first win as a Skyhawk in an 8-5 victory over No. 5 Southern New Hampshire University. During the game, he struck out four batters and gave up two earned runs. His second victory was against Franklin Pierce University, who was ranked No. 6 in the East Region, and pitched 8.0 innings giving up only two earned runs again for a 4-2 victory. Paul's final victory was over Saint Michael's College, where the Skyhawks tallied 19 hits for an 18-7 win.
The Skyhawks finished fifth in the Northeast Division, just shy of making playoffs, with a 15-27 overall record and a 9-12 mark in the NE10.
