Baseball Outhit by Franklin Pierce, Drops Third Game, 6-1

Monte scored the only run for the Skyhawks

RINDGE, N.H. (April 23, 2017) – The Stonehill College baseball team dropped game three, 6-1, of a three-game series against Northeast-10 Conference foe Franklin Pierce University Sunday afternoon on Pappas Field.

Bowler tallied the only RBI for the Skyhawks

For the Skyhawks, Ben Monte (New Haven, Connecticut/Guilford) went 2-for-3 with one run scored, a triple, and a walk, while Patrick Downey (Cheshire, Connecticut/Xavier) batted 2-for-4 with a double. Eddie Bowler (Hingham, Massachusetts/Hingham) tallied the lone RBI in the loss.

With one out in the top of the first, Stonehill's Monte tripled to centerfield with a long ball over the fielder's head, and easily scored on a groundout to second base by Bowler, giving Stonehill a 1-0 lead. Harrison Sabo (Wilton, Connecticut/Wilton) tallied a single down the right field line, as Downey doubled up the middle, but the Ravens' Zach Hart closed out the frame with a ground out.

Franklin Pierce left two runners on in the bottom of the inning as Dylan Jones and Adam Chase make their way around the bases to get in scoring position with two outs, but Brandon Jewer (Billerica, Massachusetts/Billerica Memorial) got out of the jam with his first strikeout of the game.

The Ravens rallied in the bottom of the second with one out, as Joe Napolitano singled to right field scoring Kyle Hood from third for a 1-1 game. Dylan Jones struck out for the second out of the inning, and Chase singled to left field and advanced on the throw, driving in Smoske for Franklin Pierce's first lead of the game, 2-1. John Friday also singled through the left side scoring Napolitano, as Chase and Friday set up a double steal on a first-and-third play putting the Ravens up 4-1.

Franklin Pierce recorded another run in the bottom of the third, as Anthony DeDona homered to right field with one out, 5-1.

DeDona tallied his third hit of the game driving the ball to center field with two outs scoring Friday from third for a 6-1 advantage.

Stonehill put pressure on Franklin Pierce in the top of the ninth as Bowler led off with a walk and Sabo grounded into a double play, clearing the bases for the Skyhawks. Downey rallied with two outs singling to left field and Steve Lee (Braintree, Massachusetts/Braintree) hit a ground-rule double to right field advancing Downey to third. Alexander Joyce (Newton, Massachusetts/Newton North) was hit by a pitch, but Ryan Covelle got out of the bases loaded jam with a ground out to give the Ravens their 24th win of the season.  

Stonehill (11-24, 5-11 NE10) hosts Saint Anselm College tomorrow, Monday April 24 for a single game with a first pitch slated for 3:30 p.m. on Lou Gorman Field.
