Paul earned his second win of the season

Game 1: Franklin Pierce 10 – Stonehill 6

For Stonehill, senior Ben Monte (New Haven, Connecticut/Guilford) went 1-for-4 scoring one run, tallying one RBI, recording his 10^th double of the season and walking once. Classmate Eddie Bowler (Hingham, Massachusetts/Hingham) batted 1-for-5 with two RBI, while Steve Lee (Braintree, Massachusetts/Braintree) also tallied an RBI for the Skyhawks.

The Skyhawks jumped on board in the top of the first, as John Orzechowski (Monroe, Connecticut/Masuk) got on first as the leadoff getting hit by a pitch. He stole second and scored easily on Monte's double down the left field line. Monte stole third and put the Skyhawks up, 2-0, as Bowler singled with a hard hit over the pitcher's head.

Franklin Pierce responded in the bottom of the frame rallying with two outs, as Dalton Davis blasted a homerun to right center scoring Stephen Octave and John Friday for a one-run lead, 3-2.

Neither team was able to get on base in the second inning, but the Ravens extended its lead by one, 4-2m as Davis tallied his fourth RBI of the game with a deep fly ball to center field advancing Harrison Smoske across home.

The Ravens continued pressing with another run in the bottom of the fourth, 5-2, as Smoske tripled to center field with a one hopper to the fence, driving in Joe Napolitano from first after he singled, himself.

Stonehill cut the deficit to two, 5-3, in the top of the fifth, as Monte reached first on a throwing error by Cody McPartland with two outs, on the mound, scoring Alex Hurley (Rumford, Rhode Island/Worcester Academy) on the barehanded play.

Patrick Nicholson (Middleboro, Massachusetts/Middleboro) retired the Ravens in the bottom of the fifth and sixth with a strikeout, three pop outs, and two ground outs.

The Skyhawks took advantage in the top of the seventh inning, fighting back and scoring three runs for their second lead of the game, 6-5. Hurley singled up the middle for a leadoff hit and Matthew Rocco (Newington, Connecticut/Newington) moved him over after he pushed a bunt past the first baseman. Orzechowski followed with another bunt and advanced to second on a throwing error, which scored the first run of the frame. With one out, Bowler grounded out to shortstop, but Rocco was able to get to the plate to tie the game. Back-to-back walks loaded the bases for the Skyhawks, and Lee was hit by a pitch to put Stonehill on top, 6-5.

Franklin Pierce tied the game in the bottom of the seventh, as Octave reached first on a fielder's choice to the shortstop and Adam Chase crossed home. Patrick Hurley (Roslindale, Massachusetts/Catholic Memorial) retired the side with runners on first and second.

The Ravens had its biggest inning in the bottom of the eighth, scoring four runs off of four hits and leaving one on base. Friday singled to center field with two outs, scoring Kyle Hood, and Octave sent one down the left field line reaching second base, bringing home Friday and Chase. Davis recorded his second hit of the day putting the ball through the right side, driving in Octave from second for a four-run advantage, 10-6.

Game 2: Stonehill 4 – Franklin Pierce 2

For Stonehill, Orzechowski went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI and one walk, as Bowler tallied two RBI batting 2-for-5. Daniel Paul (Farmington, Connecticut/Avon Old Farms) pitched 8.0 innings, giving up two runs for his second win of the season, as Aran Hamilton-Grenham (Woburn, Massachusetts/Buckingham Browne and Nichols) recorded his first save of the season giving up only one hit in one inning pitched.

The Skyhawks got on base early and often in the first two innings as Stonehill tallied six hits, and scored one run. In the top of the second, Lee singled with a slow roller, reaching first after the third baseman made the plan. Lee advanced to third on a fly ball single by William Kelleher (Mansfield, Massachusetts/Mansfield), and Lee scored on a passed ball, 1-0.

With one out, Alexander Joyce (Newton, Massachusetts/Newton North) singled to center field and Kelleher was hit by a pitch to get runners on first and second in the top of the fourth. Joyce tagged on a fly ball to right field, and Orzechowski drove in Joyce putting the Skyhawks up 2-0.

Stonehill added another run in the top of the seventh as Orzechowski tripled to right center with one out and Monte made it a first and third situation getting on first after getting hit by a pitch. Bowler grounded out to second, scoring Orzechowski, 3-0.

Franklin Pierce strung together two hits to score two runs in the bottom of the eighth. The Ravens tallied back-to-back singles, and Octave walked to get the bases loaded. Davis grounded out back to the pitcher, scoring the first run of the game for Franklin Pierce as Chase tagged home. Octave and Friday advanced on a wild pitch and Friday scored from third, cutting the deficit to two, 3-2. Nicholson closed out the inning with a ground out to shortstop.

Stonehill scored an insurance run in the top of the ninth, with two outs, as Orzechowski walked and stole second after Monte flew out to left field and Bowler singled to right center bringing Orzechowski across home for a 4-2 lead.

Hamilton-Grenham retired the Ravens in the bottom of the ninth by closing out the game with two groundouts and a fly out.

Stonehill (11-23, 5-10 NE10) plays a single game against Franklin Pierce University tomorrow, Sunday April 23 with a first pitch slated for 1:00 p.m. on Pappas Field.
