Senior John Hauck pitched 5.2 innings today, surrendering two runs while allowing just one hit.

EASTON, Mass. (May 5, 2016) – The Stonehill College baseball team scored nine runs in a rain filled seventh inning to storm back from a seven run deficit, and Merrimack College plated a run in the ninth to tie the game at 9-9 before the game was suspended due to inclement weather. The game will be picked up where it left off tomorrow at Lou Gorman Field before the regularly scheduled contest at 2 p.m.

Senior John Hauck (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania/Penn-Trafford) earned a no decision on the bump for Stonehill, pitching 5.2 innings while allowing two runs on a hit and four walks.

Juniors Steve Lee (Braintree, Massachusetts/Braintree) and Eddie Bowler (Hingham, Massachusetts/Hingham) each recorded two RBI, while senior Brian Hocking (Duxbury, Massachusetts/BC High) scored twice and drove in a run for Stonehill. Senior Brian Campbell (Franklin, Massachusetts/Mount Saint Charles) registered a double, RBI and run, while Sophomore Alex Hurley (Rumford, Rhode Island/Worcester Academy) connected on the ball that scored freshman Matthew Rocco (Newington, Connecticut/Newington) and Hocking to give the Skyhawks the lead.

Junior Cam DiSarcina (Shirley, Massachusetts/Groton School) led the way for Merrimack, going 2-for-5 with three RBI and a run. Sophomore Matt Nicholson (Rockland, Massachusetts/Rockland) and senior Matt Brown (Belmont, Massachusetts/Belmont/Worcester Academy) each drove in a pair of runs, while junior Matt Forgione (North Branford, Connecticut/North Branford) drew three walks and scored three times.

Junior Perry Kulaga (Lincroft, New Jersey/Middletown South) got the start for Merrimack and pitched 6.1 innings, surrendering four runs while striking out seven batters.

Junior Eddie Bowler drove in two runs today.

On a wet dreary day, neither team could get much going at the plate to start the game, as both teams managed to record just one hit after five innings. Merrimack got on the board first in the sixth inning, as Forgione and junior Tyler Lyne (Agawam, Massachusetts/Agawam) worked back-to-back walks and senior Sean O'Neill (Norwood, Massachusetts/Norwood) drew a two out walk to load the bases. After sophomore PJ Browne (Rutland, Massachusetts/Rutland) was hit by a pitch to bring a run in, Nicholson singled back to the pitcher to drive in another run.

Merrimack scored five more runs in the seventh, extending its lead to seven runs. The first three batters of the inning reached base on an error, hit by pitch and a walk to load the bases with no outs. DiSarcina then doubled to clear the bases and Brown singled to center field to score DiSarcina from second.

Down 7-0 with the weather dropping and puddles forming in the infield, Stonehill rallied. Hocking led off the inning reaching base when he was hit by a pitch and Hurley singled through the left side of the infield, advancing Hocking to third base. After sophomore Alexander Joyce (Newton, Massachusetts/Newton North) walked to load the bases, Lee singled to left field to score the Skyhawks first two runs of the game. Sophomore Isiah Nunez (Brooklyn, New York/Berkshire School) kept the rally going when he walked to reload the bases and all the runners subsequently advanced on a wild pitch, scoring the third run of the inning. With two outs, junior Ben Monte (New Haven, Connecticut/Guilford) and Campbell drew back-to-back walks to drive in a run and Hocking was hit by a pitch for the second time of the game, forcing in another run. Bowler then singled up the middle to tie the game at seven runs apiece and Hurley hit a long fly ball to right field that was misplayed by the right fielder and dropped, allowing two runs to cross the plate and giving the Skyhawks a brief lead.

Merrimack responded with a run in the eighth and a run in the ninth to tie the game at nine runs each. Stonehill was unable to score in the bottom of the ninth and with the rain starting to fall harder the umpires called the game instead of head to extra innings. The game will be picked up in the top of the tenth inning tomorrow at 2 p.m. Stonehill and Merrimack will then play its regularly scheduled game at 3:30 p.m.
