Schneider named Player of the Week, Hurley tabbed as Pitcher of the Week

EASTON, Mass. (March 14, 2016) – Two members of the Stonehill College baseball team have earned Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) weekly honors, it was announced earlier today. Senior outfielder Eric Schneider (Camarillo, California/St. Bonaventure) has garnered NE-10 Player of the Week accolades while redshirt sophomore lefty Patrick Hurley (Roslindale, Massachusetts/Catholic Memorial) was tabbed as the NE-10 Pitcher of the Week.

Schneider earns Player of the Week honors after leading the Skyhawks to a perfect 7-0 week. The Camarillo, California native was a force at the plate, hitting .500 (13-for-26) with a home run and eight RBI. He also scored 12 runs, stole four bases and drew two walks. On the week, Schneider recorded a .581 on base percentage and a .731 slugging percentage.

The senior registered a hit in every game this past week, posting a multi-hit effort and scoring multiple runs in every game but two. Schneider opened the week going 2-for-4 with a walk and a run in a 7-3 win over Wilmington University, and followed up that performance finishing 2-for-3 with two runs and two stolen bases in a 5-2 win over Bloomfield. In back-to-back wins over Concordia College and NE-10 for Assumption College, Schneider combined to go 5-for-8 with four runs, four RBI and a homerun.

Schneider enjoyed a break out year last spring for the Skyhawks, earning NE-10 All-Conference second team honors and also being named to the NE-10 All-Tournament team. He started in every game he appeared in and hit .339 which was the second highest average on the team. Schneider recorded six doubles, two triples and 28 RBI to go with 29 runs.

Hurley earns Pitcher of the Week honors after winning both of his starts in a two start week for the lefty. The Roslindale, Massachusetts native pitched to the tune of a 0.59 ERA over 15.1 innings with eight strikeouts and three walks. In Stonehill's 5-0 win over Concordia, Hurley pitched eight shutout innings with six strikeouts, and in his second start, a 7-3 win over Wilmington, he threw 7.1 innings giving up three runs (one earned) with two strikeouts.

Through three appearances this spring, Hurley is 2-0 with a 0.43 earned run average in 21 innings of work. He has given up just four runs (one earned) on 16 hits while issuing eight walks.

Hurley posted a 3-0 record with a 2.05 ERA, 16 strikeouts, and five earned runs in 22.0 innings last spring, his first year of action with the Skyhawks. He collected his first career win in a 3.2 inning relief appearance against American International College in Stonehill's 12-9 come from behind win.

Stonehill (10-5, 0-0 NE-10), ranked ninth in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association East Region Poll that was released today, will travel to Molloy College for a weekend series against the Lions. First game is set for Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
